         <description><![CDATA[<div>Mukami: Through retail. Working in Canada for brands in - was a junior buyer. It was the beginning of e-commerce. Companies didn't know what this was or why people would want to buy things online. <br><br>Very first job was for a software sales company, knew that tech held a lot of promise. <br><br>The thing about retail is that it is very traditional. The business were using a calculator and a ruler (this is TJ Max). 2005. <br><br>Came from the tech side. Went into retail. "I was like, wow."<br><br>Jumia - Then moved to Kenya. First job was at Jumia,  first tech company from Africa to launch on the NY stock - exiting. <br>Kenya has no address system. Much of what e-commerce was doing in other places doesn't work in Kenya. How do you get goods into people's hands when there isn't an address system or people don't have smartphones widely yet? <br><br>What stands out - creativity and problem solving is an every day task. You get to solve problems every day. <br><br>There are opportunities to innovate every day. Trying to find African solutions to African problems. <br><br>What I am excited about - highlighting smaller scale innovation. There are so many things that matter for humans. Example tik-tok for entertainment. How we keep meeting these basic human needs through technology. <br><br>Through the context of learning. People have a desire to learn. How do we use technology to bring learning closer to them. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>Does your family know what you are working on? Do your friends? <br>If you are not enthusiastic and frequently selling, how will you convince the first person. <br><br>You have to believe you can do it!<br><br>You don't have to have to have the answer, you are just working towards. <br><br>Selling yourself doesn't have to be fake. Focus on the problem. Nerd out on it. Use platforms that are best suited to you (Medium article, LInkdin). It is story telling. It does not have to feel like promotion. If you can't do it, find someone in your organization who can do it. If you are not passionate about your why, figure out if it right for you. <br><br>One thing a lot of people don't do - we run away from things that are not comfortable - don't run away, instead ask for help / outside perspective. You can get help very informally. <br><br>There are forums that are available - check them out. Specifically woman in tech. <br><br>Conversion is psychology. <br>Possible pitfall</div>]]></description>

You don't even need to have a use for it yet. <br><br>Figure out who is interacting. How am I tracking? Who is interested? Who is dropping off? Whatever tool you use, it is understanding data and embracing an analytical approach. <br><br>It is about listening to your costumers. <br><br>Open-mind/anti-bias. Have humility and listen. Create an environment where people can push back. We assume something like climate change is equally important to everyone everywhere and it can be irrelevant to the people. <br><br>Example: When Jumia launched, they came in saying, we know what we are doing. Kenyan's said, this wont work. Jumia said we know what we are doing. They were wrong. Jumia ordered mini-skirts for a conservative country. </div>]]></description>
