These two new territories allowed sovereignty. This event is significant because the act failed and was a key political event that started the Civil War.</p>]]></description>

Fought by 87,000 Unions versus 45,000 Confederates, for a total of 132,000 soldiers. The battle took place outside of Sharpsburg, Maryland. This event is important because the Unions won, and it was the bloodies day in all of United States history. This battle resulted in the wounding or death of 23,000 men and changed the course of the Civil War</p>]]></description>

The Unions did not like this for they were fighting to keep slavery. This proclamation did not free all enslaved people, but only those living in states not under Union control. It was fought between approximately 94,000 Union soldiers and 72,000 Confederate soldiers. The Union forces were led by George G. Meade, while the Confederates were led by Robert E. Lee. This event is considered the most important engagement of the Civil War. This battle involved the most amount of casualties and is described as the wars turning point.</p>]]></description>

The battle was between Union army of Cumberland and the Confederate army of Tennessee. This battle is significant because it marked an end of a Union offensive, the Chickamauga campaign. The confederates won, but lost 20% of their forces in battle.</p>]]></description>
