What is the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, and why does it exist?

The GPGP is an accumulation of rubbish and plastic. Its size is 3 times the size of france. But why does it exist? Most people just throw trash on the floor or in rivers instead of throwing it in the Dustbin. All that garbage flows straight in the ocean. And thats how the GPGP was created. All that plastic becomes microplastic and gets in everywhere. Even in other animals. And even in people.

Thats a blue Vipershrimp in the picture!

Habitat: Rivers of Gabun, Coast of Gabun (only as baby)
Nutrition: Microparticles, Microorganisms, Plankton, Algae
Maximum Age: Up to 10 years
Maximum Size: Up to 16cm
Special Facts:

1. Growing
The viper shrimp has a special method to grow. As all other shrimp, it has to shed its skin, to grow.

2. Color change
Every time when the viper shrimp sheds its skin, its color matches the substrate more and more, in order to hide form predators like birds or big fish. The funny thing is, that it isnt able to change its color to black, so if the substrate is black, it changes its color to blue.

3. Nutrition
The Viper Shrimp has fans on its arms to filter food out of the water. In order to do this, it climbs on a stone against which the river flows and raises its arms (on which her fans are). So it happens that microorganisms etc. are caught in the shrimp's fans and are later eaten by the viper shrimp

4. Breeding
When the viper shrimp lays its eggs, the eggs are immediately driven into the sea by the river flow. There, the eggs hatch and develop into almost adult viper shrimps. After 3 months, when they are almost fully grown up, they migrate up the river and leave the ocean forever.

Grown up viper shrimps are not able to survive in brackish water, and baby viper shrimps are not able to survive in freshwater

INTERVIEW WITH THE COCKATOO DWARF CICHLID ABOUT THE GPGP

Me: Hello Mr. Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid, may I interview you about the GPGP?

CDC: Oh sure

Me: Well, lets start with the first question then. What do you think about the GPGP?

CDC: Actually, I dont care about the GPGP, because Im not living in the Pacific Oceans.

Me: But people still throw rubbish like empty soda cans in the river, doesnt that matter you?

CDC: No it doesnt

Me: Why? Your river is dirty as hell, and its going to be worse

CDC: Well actually, we use the empty soda cans as our homes, thats probably why our population exploded, after your people started throwing their rubbish in our river. The useless things flow in the ocean, the things that we can use, stay.

Me: Thats the point! All those dirt and trash flows into the ocean!

CDC: I think you people should just stop throwing trash in the river, and better reuse it (except the empty soda cans, we LOVE em!)

Me: Ok, thanks for letting me interview you, any advices for the people, who are reading this?

CDC: Dear people, stop polluting our river with your plastic rubbish and old fishing nets. <<the following content was removed, as it supported the GPGP>>, I hope you wont censor it ^^

Me: Oh sure, I wont. Good bye Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid!

CDC: See ya one day again, human!

FUNFACT 1: Did you know that the Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid is able to change his color to impress the females?

FUNFACT 2: I have this fish in my fish tank (Actually "had" because he died on 25.01.2022)

What can we do about the plastic problem???

First of all, we could stop throwing our garbage (not only plastic!) on the streets, and instead, throw them in the trashbin! In addition, our government should place more trashbins in the cities. Second, we should clean the gpgp, and lastly, we need to demarcate the sea animals from the GPGP first, in order to clean it up without killing any animals
