Summary: In this chapter we see Carin McCandless husband coming home early with a abnormal behavior. Carin then learns about her brother death from her husband, and was filled with sorrow. Carin later talks about Chris love for the family dog (128). Cathrine wished Bucky was with Chris as the dog is currently with Cathrine. The two siblings were very close in appearance but their differences were more greater then their similarities (129). As Carine were in good terms with her father and mother after Chris left and she is still in a good relationship(129) between them. Later Carine asked her husband to stop by a church. She sat and prayed but she did not receive any answers from god (131). A month later Billie sits in her dinning table and goes through the pictorial record of Chris finale days.

Analysis: It is very saddening to listen to the audio and just hear how sad Carine was when she heard about Chris death. They were so close, I just can image the grief someone who would have when someone like him died without hearing a word. I have a uncle who was very close to me and my family but he changed when he was sent to prison for a little bit. But after his release he vanished and with that my closest cousin also vanished. I kind of felt a coldness from listening to this chapter, but I know they are fine.

In this chapter we get to see a young explorer who was very similar to Chris. His name was Everett Ruess, he was just like Chris exploring on his own without any family members or anyone knowing were he was. Later on, he was gone (p.89)around a place called Davis gulch. He left at age 16 to travel in the summer and returned when summer ended. After he was done with high school he was back on the road(p.90). He dropped out of UCLA to chase his dream( P.96).Everett wasn't found, many people believed(p.96) he fell writing on another wall like he did with a wall that was inscribed with "Nemo 1934" Other people think he was murdered, others say it could be his reckless(97) actions. But in the end no one knows.

Analysis: It is quite tragic that he died. But I feel like he know there was a good chance of death. If I wanted to do something I love to do, knowing it is dangerous I would not regret it. If I did not want to die then I would never do it.

Summary: In chapter 10 we focus on Chris, our main character. In this set we are on the part with the Alaskan state troopers who are trying to figure out who in the world is Chris. A story then was published on a daily news where Jim Gallien saw the headline(P.99) titled the troopers. Then stated the dead body was Chris's as well the were told the information one being he was from south Dakota so they searched(p.99) over there. After searching it came to a close in which they found nothing. But Wayne saw this investigation and called the troopers and said it was Chris as well as giving them his social security number. Which led to Virginia, in which the family had moved(p.101). The troopers looked for another lead and found out about his brother. They contacted him, and showed him a photograph(p.101). In which his older brother confirms it was Chris.

Analysis: I guess making friends with random people could benefit you quite well. I don't really talk to random people as It is quite scary talking to someone you dont know, far away from safety or home.

Summary: This chapter is where we get to know more about the other relatives in the family. It firsts starts off with Walter a hard worker who was 56 years old. He is a tall bearded man who is a jerk. It then says he goes to the beach to wonder how a person with so much comparison(p.104). cause so much pain. we go back to Chris childhood where is parents gets married it was hard for both Chris and his sister to get close to their parents as they were ignoring(p.109). From this Chris and Carin formed a strong bond together, Chris was smart and he tested high in his test in which he was put into a accelerated(p.106) course. He did not like this course as it was too much work and saw no point of doing more just because he was smart. He really wanted drop out of his class but he got good grades as he grew older. When Chris was about to graduate, he told his teacher he had no intentions(p.114) for college. The Chris left his old life, his family to go through his first adventure(p.116) and thus he is forever alone.

Analysis: That is some huge guts Chris. How could he go alone to an adventure in such a young age when he has so much going for him. I know I could not do that as i'm quite a big baby, I literally cant go to the 7 eleven which is 3 minutes from my house by myself. I always need one person with me or I wont go.

Summary: This Chapter is also showing us more in depths of the McCandless family drama that inevitably pushed Chris away. we continue this story from our last chapter where Chris family celebrate his graduation. After this he goes on the road. heading to his first adventure. Chris is known to be overconfident(p.118) so his family tells him to be careful. When Chris went to college he brought some weapons, and people saw him having a machete in the dorm. Even if Chris seemed nice he along with everyone else has a dark personality(P.120). Chris discovered in California that his dad had been cheating on his mom and was having a double separate life. Chris thus gets mad thinking about his fatherly lectures, which in the end were just a father who is a total hypocrite(p.122). Knowing this Chris takes off and avoid his parents living the life of independence(p.125) and cuts himself from family life. Chris had receive some letters in which they were telling him it was not right to distance (p.125) himself from them, but Chris did not care and thought of it as dumb.

Analysis: Chris is straight dumb in my opinion as he did not want to at least tell his mother about the situation. I know it could be very devastating but I bet it would be more devastating when you child cuts himself from you and you dont know what is going on especially when you can fear something terrible might happen. I really cant relate to Chris as he is someone who is mainly alone compared to myself being with someone I know. Only time I can relate to him is during school when im forced to be in groups, which in 12th grade it is quite hard to make friends now. That is when I want to be alone and never to be bothered.

Summary: In this chapter we are looking at a character named Jon Krakauer who tells us his own story of his adventure. his goal was to simply climb a great mountain called the devils thumb in Alaska. The mountain had tons of glacier(p.138) which made it very challenging in which Krakauer was all in for. Krakauer loves his climbing(p.135) in which is addicted to it and even felt so this mountain as a great challenge to him. When krakauer climbed it took him three days to reach the edge of the devils thumb. later on a snowstorm(p.140) appeared in which made Krakauer nearly fall into a crevasse before he could make it to his camp. When the plane (p.142) arrives to deliver his food Krakauer goes back to climbing in a perfect weather, which he climbed 700 feet (p.143) high and see no foot hold in which his only option is to climb back down.

Analysis: I dont know how climbing something so dangerous could be fun but I guess if you can successfully do something like this you would feel a great amount of achievement and joy in which I felt when I play a game that gamble not my life but simple things.

Summary: In this chapter we see Krakuer try his second attempt in climbing the devils thumbs. But when he is in his tent he gets very bored and a bit down and decides to smoke in his tent. This was a bad move in which he burns (p.146) his tent which the cold breeze enters in. This tent was also not one of his but borrowed from his father (p.147) in which he is very similar to Chris and Walt. Jon would then use some complicated(p.147) family memories as his motivation. Jon tells us about his father who had some pain and took pain killers in which he became addicted to them, thus becoming suicidal. After telling us his bad memories Jon attempts his third try on the mountain. He decides to sleep on the way and said he hadn't had such loneliness(p.152). And then goes a climb the devils thumb, finally reaching the top of it.

Analysis: That is some dedication and courage to finish something so dangerous If I was him I would of went back me and my dad are similar in a way where we dont do risky things.

Summary: In this chapter Jon goes to Stampede Trail to check where Chris died. He explained about Chris in which we the readers could understand more about Chris finale days in the wild. One of Chris friends stated he was born in the wrong time and the current time provided him with enough freedom (p.174). The three new companion along with Krakuer found a cable car which was 1 mile from the river(p.`173). Jon says that he wanted to go to the trail alone and got quite annoyed, that the other three joined him. But this also gave him a sense of relieve he had company(p.176)since he was mainly a solo person and a little scared. Later the hunters find that Chris had killed a moose(p.177). Jon had published the news about it and everyone who saw it thought less about Chris incompetent before everyone was saying that he should not have explored if he could not tell the differences Krakauer and his 3 companions respect(p.181)Chris for his grand adventure.

Analysis: People with the same hobby can find deep respect in others who pursue their goals with great hardship.
