I believe that you must experience whatever it is first hand. As there is no point in believing something you have not found out for yourself that it is really true. Believing in a stereotype without finding out if it true first if it is really is like believing in a rumor without seeing it. 

People are offended by these things because they are not true. They can even be from people in your own race stereotyping each other. People have loads of stereotypes for different races, religions and genders. You need to take everything the media says with a pinch of salt. The media usually over exaggerates or makes assumptions; this over a large space of time makes people expect things of certain groups of people. This makes people mean, hurtful and racist comments based on the stereotypes  that people have made. To form a real understanding of how certain cultures are, you need to meet someone from that certain culture, and experience firsthand how people from that culture are.

Stereotypes:
A stereotype is when people judge a whole group of people based on a few people. This is dangerous as it can cause fights, wars, or other problems.  An example of a stereotype is just because somebody is a Muslim, they're a terrorist. For example the video where someone in a thobe threw something and everyone thought it was a bomb.
