Roberto teaches Francisco how to drive the Window Cleaners van. He had a hard time perfecting his turns and parking skills. He aced his written test but barely passed his driving test.

Turning a page

Francisco starts his junior year in high school he visits his counselor, Mr Kinkade. They discuss and talk about his schedule, drivers education and college. Mr Kinkade signs him up to visit Cal Poly. Francisco goes, learns and explores the campus. He has mixed feelings about it but imagined himself in college in the future.

Los santitos

Francisco is more involved in school especially in clubs. He joined the Squires Club and the Spanish Club. He feels at home in the Spanish Club. His teacher talks Spanish, he chooses the name of the club(Los Santitos)and even gets elected for Club president. They come up with a Christmas food drive that blesses many families in need including Francisco's family.

Choosing sides

Francisco became interested in politics. He asks Papa about his opinion on politics and papa reacts negatively and tells him about all the injustice that he has lived through. After hearing about John. F Kennedy Francisco roots deeply for him. He then becomes incredibly angry because many people didn't vote for Kennedy since he was Catholic. Francisco doesn't understand why some people don't like Mexicans or Catholics. However his family tells him to not lose his pride in being Mexican and to not listen to the ignorant.

Junior scandals

Francisco sings "Cielito Lindo" at his school's annual event sponsored by the junior class. He is nervous but his family and school convince him he has to stand up for himself and his roots.

Running for office

Francisco makes an amazing new fried named Paul Tagati. Paul and Francisco spend the majority of time together. One day they both decide to run for office. Paul runs for treasurer and Francisco runs for president and they both get elected. On the way home Francisco is excited to tell his family about the good news. Instead he gets greeted with his little brother, Torito telling him Papa is in the hospital because he got cut very badly. Papa lost a finger, however they are still happy for Francisco's accomplishment.

A new life

Roberto brings his girlfriend Darlene home to meet his parents. He's very nervous especially because he knows that her step-father doesn't accept him but later is relieved once his parents accept the marriage between the two. After getting married, there were many more problems that his family would have to face. One problem was working all day everyday just to get the littlest amount of money paid back to them. Roberto and Darlene both also worked for themselves since they were expecting a baby together.

A test of faith

Francisco wakes up with no energy and every joint in his body aching. It is difficult for him to get out of bed. It wasn't until his hospital visit afterwards, where he found out he was diagnosed with mononucleosis. A few days pass by and Francisco is worried about losing his job, even though Roberto and his mom had it covered for him. He was also worried about missing the freshmen assembly and the amount of work he needed to catch up on. He hated the feeling of falling behind everything. Becoming frustrated and angry, he dropped his physics class a few days later. Francisco's mom encouraged him to keep going by praying, so he started praying on a regular daily basis once again. Things became better during the next four weeks. He earned more money and even caught up on all his classes.

A fumble

Francisco went to J.C. Penney with his mom and tried on different coats and ties. On a Tuesday morning, he dressed up and met with Ms. Muse to go with him to the Rotary Club luncheon at the Santa Maria Inn. The thought of having lunch with so many important people made Francisco nervous. The main person in the dining hall they went into looked for reasons to fine people. While everyone else thought it was hilarious, Francisco didn't understand it. He thought that important men were supposed to be more polite and mannerly. A few moments later, Francisco was being introduced but later on was even more nervous when he found out he had to speak in front of everyone. He spit out random words and later on apologized to Mr. Muse. Mr. Muse wasn't aware of Francisco speaking either.

A breakthrough

Francisco's friends started getting accepted into colleges halfway through senior year. He wasn't sure on how to apply so he had gotten help from his counselor. Francisco's father wasn't fond of having him leave for college. He ended up passing his college prep test.

Graduation day

Francisco graduated high school and was accepted into The University of Santa Clara. He received many scholarships and also was given a ring that belonged to his grandfather. The ring was given by Francisco's father. During the ceremony, Francisco gave a greeting speech.

Still moving

Joy filled the family when Roberto's daughter was born. Francisco got new clothes for college from his mother. His father was upset because Francisco kept getting distracted by driving. He was finally going to college. After many years, he was "still moving."
