In the film Riley is happy in Minnesota with her friends and playing hockey and it then comes to her surprise when her parents are surprised with the fact that they will be moving to San Francisco...this is where the literary theme of the film gets explored and we dive deep into the dilemma. Riley is moving to a place where she is completely alienated and has to start over, this explores the literary theme of adapting to a new environment or “change” and her emotions are trying to adjust to this as well, as we flash back into her mind the emotions are disagreeing mainly joy and sadness, joy feels as if sadness ruins everything she touches and is not necessary for Riley's development and this leads to both characters getting shot out of HQ and leaving the other emotions to take over Riley which causes major conflict. This dilemma that stirs up while Joy and Sadness are gone is Riley not making friends at school, hating the food in San Francisco, and butting heads with her parents. As we reach ¾ of the movie we get to Joy and Sadness learning about why sadness is necessary for Riley's development, they go through the islands in Riley's mind and complete tasks in each one to make it back to HQ, the final one requires to find an imaginary friend of Riley's which is “Bing Bong” they need him to get back to HQ and later he sacrifices himself so they can make it back. While these emotions are away, Anger, Disgust, and Fear have done a worse job of keeping Riley’s state of mind; to the point where Riley was just a minute away from getting on a bus and running away from her life. When Joy and Sadness get back to HQ the problem is resolved when Joy finally lets sadness take the wheel and has Riley experience sadness to where she misses home and can’t imagine a life without her parents and decides to stay and adjust herself to her new environment. In the end, it is realized that for us to develop in early life we need to experience every emotion whether good or bad it helps us grow.

These characters are the reason we are able to get a deep insight into Riley's mind as they foreshadow Riley's decision making in the movie while trying to guide her in life. What Riley doesn't know is that her world will be turned upside-down and inside-out when she and her parents move to San Francisco.

In "Inside Out," the main character is Riley, an 11-year-old girl navigating life after moving to a new city. The movie personifies her emotions—Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust—who live in her mind and influence her thoughts and actions. The film explores how these emotions interact and contribute to Riley's overall emotional well-being after moving to a new city. By showing how Riley's internal emotions interact with her external environments this aligns well with Bronfenbrenner's theory, showing the complexity of emotional development.

Throughout the movie Riley had many emotions, these emotions would often argue with each other, this was an everyday thing for Riley. Rylie's five emotions are Joy, sadness, fear, anger and disgust. This relates to Bronfenbrenner's theory because Riley's emotions got thee best of her in different situations and environment's. For example, when Riley moved from Minnesota to San Francisco, her emotions were really getting the best of her. She constantly thought that she would not fit in and not make any new friends. Another time when Rileys emotions (Brenfenbrenners theory) got the best of her was towards the end of the movie, when Riley began to crush on a boy that she had saw. This really made all of Rileys emotions sky rocket. Throughout the movie Riley fell into depression. She had too much commotion and stress going on in her life to the point her emotions got the best of her. Riley would also commonly have Anxiety attacks. I would tie this into Brenfenrenners theory , because. she would always feed of the energy of her surroundings. For example, Riley would be out hanging with her friends, the vibes will be perfect, but the moment the slightest inconvenience approaches, everything will go down hill. Riley would also tend to act out and throw tantrums, for example, when Rileys mother tries to convince Riley to try out for a new Hockey team, Riley immediately gets annoyed, Riley kinds of just ignores her at first, however, as her mother kept talking she then lashes and goes off on both her father. Riley would have these often have these episodes, but it was not because she was being a brat, they simply just came from the simple fact that her emotions were skyrocketing. Riley's emotions even had memories of flashbacks stored in a unit in a secret department in the the back of her brain. As she got older, her emotions would revisit the memories when she was in similar predicaments, and they did this so they know how to go about the situation. Bronfenbrenner's theory proposes that human development is shaped by a complex system of interactions between a person and the environment that they are in, which you can see this within Riley throughout the movie. Riley's emotions varied based off where she was at and who she was surrounded by.

Bronfenbrenner's Theory can be observed through Riley's emotions- Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust- with the new city she has moved to. The microsystem is noticeable in her interactions with family and friends, which shapes her emotional experiences. The mesosystem reflects how her school life impacts her home emotions such as when she had a bad day at school and didn't want to be bothered when she got home. The exosystem is represented by her family moving to a new city, an external factor that greatly affected her emotional state. The macrosystem is shown when Riley is pressured to maintain happiness, especially when Joy attempts suppress Sadness when making decisions. Lastly, the chronosystem is expressed when Riley transitions into adolescence, showcasing how her emotions evolve over time in response to Riley's significant life changes. Bronfenbrenbrenner's Theory shows the complexity of emotional development as influenced by both internal feelings and external contexts.
