He stays behind so he can make it on his football team. He talks to his mom angrily, because he's upset the only people he's ever been close to are moving to a new town. He's also trying to convince them to wait on him, because he's close to being in the NFL draft. Tarik is trying to save his brother from slipping into drug dealing and trying to assure his family has a permeant home. It seems every time he looks up his brother is caught up in something else and his mother needs money for rent to avoid being evicted, yet he can only do so much.
