During the event, all 3 energy systems will be contributing to energy production at all times. During the first period when Joe is paddling out to get the best wave, for the first 10 seconds the most dominant system would be the ATP-PC system as it would be at a high intensity, followed by the anaerobic glycolysis system and the aerobic system. After the first 10 seconds, the anaerobic glycolysis system would take over as the dominant energy system for the next 30 seconds. When he waits for the right wave to come along his PC stores would be restoring back to their normal levels, during this time the aerobic system would be dominant as oxygen supply is meeting oxygen demand. When he takes off at a high intensity to catch the wave, the ATP-PC system would again be the dominant energy system for the first 10 seconds. As he jumps up onto his board and rides the wave, he would be using the anaerobic glycolysis system for the next 30 seconds as he is completing explosive moves on the board. When he gets back to shore and paddles back out he would be dominantly using his aerobic system, followed by the anaerobic glycolysis system and the ATP-PC system.

Energy system interplay involves all 3 systems contributing to ATP production all the same time, just at varying amounts. The dominant energy system is dependent on the intensity and duration of the activity. When Joe first runs out into the surf and paddles out quickly he would be working at a high intensity so the ATP-PC system would be dominant for the first 10 seconds as it has the fastest rate. Then once CP had depleted the Anaerobic Glycolysis would take over as the main energy provider as it has the next fastest rate. As Joe waits for the right wave the Aerobic system would be dominant as the intensity is low, during this time CP would be restoring. When Joe paddles hard to catch the wave the ATP-PC system would become dominant again as the intensity has risen, as he performs his series of 'rad', explosive moves the Anaerobic Glycolysis system would be dominant because it is an extended period of high intensity. When Joe has completed his moves and drops off the board and is paddling back out the aerobic system would be dominant as it is low intensity and he has sufficient oxygen levels.

During this event, we now all three energy systems contribute to energy production. Due to the lengthy nature of the exercise, the aerobic energy system will be overall the predominant energy system providing the most energy

Any health promotion strategy must address all four levels of the socio-ecological model as they're all inter-related. On a an individual level the nursing home has successfully addressed this by adding bell rings as a reminder system to be active 3 times a day, they also have a qualified teacher offering Tai Chi so they can learn how to do this. On a social level the nursing home isn't really doing anything so this need to be changed. On a physical environment level the nursing home has upgraded and made the area more aesthetically pleasing, also they have been given pedometers. There is nothing being done on the policy level so it need to be addressed. Overall the strategy won't be very successful due to the fact that all 4 levels aren't being addressed very well such as not much being done on the policy and social level.

S.E.M Critique: Part 1

For the program to be successful, all 4 levels of the S.E.M should be targeted. Because all 4 levels are interrelated, if one or more are missing the program will not be successful. On the Individual Level, the residents are given the reminder system of a bell ringing 3 times a day to remind them to be active. They are also given a Tai Chi class that increases their knowledge. On the Physical Environment level the paths around the venue have been upgraded meaning it is easier for the residents to walk on them and the general look of the outside area has been improved which encourages the residents to be active in those areas. Residents are also given pedometers to track how many steps they take. The program does not address the Policy and Social level. Because of this, I believe that the program will not be successful as the two levels that are missing will bring down the two levels that are addressed.

All four levels of the socio-ecological are interrelated which means they are all connected and affect each other. The likely consequence of not all of the levels being addressed is the health promotion not being successful due to not addressed levels having a negative effect on the ones that have been. Overall, it would result in a strategy not achieving its goals of making people more active. The social level not being addressed well and nothing being done on the policy level would result on all the work being done on the physical environment and individual level going to waste as there's incentives or social support for the elderly there to be active.

Look to include specific 'flow on' effects of not addressing one level eg if their is no policy encouraging walking on the new paths and seeing the garden area that has been made more attractive then this improved environment will not get the use it should.
