We first need to establish relationships structured with respect, understanding, adaptability, and trust. Our classrooms are filled with students who often come from different backgrounds and cultures. Good things happen when a student truly feels accepted and welcomed. For example, when students see that you are trying to understand who they are and their values as a person, they feel cared for and see purpose and will start to take pride in their academic performance. In this situation, teachers also gain from it and become more confident and teaching becomes easier when students are willing to perform. When connections are made, emotions are stabilized.
