Marvel Studios, originally known as Marvel Films from 1993 to 1996, is an American motion picture studio based at The Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California and is a subsidiary of Walt Disney Studios, itself a wholly owned division of The Walt Disney Company, with film producer Kevin Feige serving as president. Previously, the studio was a subsidiary of Marvel Entertainment until The Walt Disney Company changed the companies in August 2015.

Dedicated to producing films based on Marvel Comics characters, the studio has been involved in three Marvel-character film franchises to have exceeded $1 billion in North American revenue: The X-Men, Spider-Man, and Marvel Cinematic Universe multi-film franchises.X-Men and Spider-Man and other Marvel franchises are licensed out to 20th Century Fox and Sony Pictures, respectively. Since 2012, Marvel Studios' films are distributed theatrically by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, having previously been distributed by Paramount Pictures from 2008 to 2011. Universal Pictures distributed The Incredible Hulk (2008), while Sony Pictures distributed Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and will distribute any future Spider-Man films made in conjunction with Marvel Studios.

In August 1996, Marvel created Marvel Studios, an incorporation of Marvel Films, due to the sale of New World Communications Group, Inc., Marvel's fellow Andrews Group subsidiary in film and television stations, to News Corporation/Fox. Filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to raise money to finance the new corporation, Marvel, Isaac Perlmutter's Zib, Inc. and Avi Arad sold Toy Biz stocks, which Marvel had started and took public in February 1995.

Marvel Entertainment's success rests on the strength and marketability of its characters. The firm lends its more than 9,000 characters (which include popular characters Iron Man, Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk, and the X-Men) to publishing, licensing, and film production operations. Through Marvel Worldwide, the company is the #1 comic book publisher with a 40% market share. Marvel earns toy licensing revenues through a deal with Hasbro. Other licensing fees come from character use in consumer products such as clothing and video games. Marvel-produced movies have included such worldwide hits as Guardians of the Galaxy, The Avengers, two Thor films, two Captain America films, and three Iron Man films.

Marvel Studio's top competitors are Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. and DC Entertainment Inc. The most basic, and obvious, reason the DC vs. Marvel rivalry benefits the superhero movie genre is that competition, by nature, raises the bar for all competitors. While some fans will, without question, see and enjoy both DC andMarvel films, there is a significant chunk of the moviegoing public that will be less egalitarian in their ticket purchases.

On December 31, 2009, The Walt Disney Company purchased Marvel Entertainment for $4 billion. Both Marvel and Disney stated that the merger would not affect any preexisting deals with other film studios for the time being, although Disney said they would distribute future Marvel projects with their own studio once the deals expired. In February 2015, it was announced that Disney and Sony Pictures will collaborate on the next Spider-Man films, the first of which, Spider-Man: Homecoming, was released on July 7, 2017. Former Sony executive Amy Pascal will co-produce the films with Kevin Feige. The film rights to Spider-Man will still remain with Sony. Marvel Studios will also explore opportunities to integrate other characters of MCU into future Spider-Man films. In August 2015, Marvel Studios was integrated into Walt Disney Studios, with Feige reporting directly to Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn instead of Marvel Entertainment CEO Isaac Perlmutter. Marvel Television and subsidiary company Marvel Animation were left under Marvel Entertainment and Perlmutter's control.

Following the November 2014 hacking of Sony's computers, emails between Sony Pictures Entertainment Co-Chairman Amy Pascal and president Doug Belgrad were released and stating that Sony wanted Marvel Studios to produce a new trilogy of Spider-Man films while Sony kept "creative control, marketing and distribution". Talks between Sony and Marvel came to an end, and Sony planned to go ahead with its own slate of Spider-Man films. However, in February 2015, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios announced that they would release a new Spider-Man film, with Kevin Feige and Pascal producing. You would first see the character in an earlier Marvel Cinematic Universe film. Later revealed to be Captain America: Civil War. Marvel Studios would explore possibilities to put MCU characters into future Spider-Man films, which Sony Pictures would continue to finance, distribute, and have final creative control. Both studios have the ability to end the agreement at any point, and no money was exchanged with the deal. However, a small change was made to a 2011 deal formed between the two studios where Marvel gained full control of Spider-Man's merchandising rights, in exchange for making a one-time payment of $175 million to Sony and paying up to $35 million for each future Spider-Man film, and receiving their previous 5% of any Spider-Man film's revenue, with Marvel getting to reduce their $35 million payment to Sony if the co-produced film grossed more than $750 million. Lone Star Funds also co-financed the film with Sony, through its LSC Film Corporation deal, covering 25% of the $175 million budget.

Script Development

There are a number of stages in the development of a screenplay, and each stage usually requires multiple drafts. Each stage has a specific purpose as you move forward, step-by-step, from a general outline of your story to a script that includes the full concept of your film, including locations, actions, dialogue, sounds, movements, etc. This process of working and reworking your film’s story material, adding, cutting, or refining details along the way, is called script development.

The concept is a very brief outline of the basic elements involved in your story. It describes what will drive the story in no more than a few sentences. Who is in this film ( the protagonist)? What do they want, what gets in the way, and what do they do (goal + conflict = actions)? And where does it all take place (location)?

The treatment is a ruth description of the plot, written in present tense, as the film will unfold for the audience, scene by scene. A treatment is a story draft where the writer can explain the basic actions and plot structure of the story before going into the complication of understanding fully developed scenes with dialogue, specific actions, and setting descriptions. A treatment involves writing one paragraph for each major dramatic event, also called a narrative beat.

The author’s draft is the first complete version of the narrative in proper screenplay format. The importance of the author’s draft is in the story, the development of characters, and the conflict, actions, settings, and dialogue. The author’s draft goes through a number of rewrites and revisions on its way to becoming a final draft, which is the last version of the author’s draft before being turned into a shooting script.

Once you have completed your rewrites and arrived at a final draft, you will be ready to take that script into production by changing it into a shooting script. The shooting script is the version of the screenplay you take into production, meaning the script from which your creative team, cinematographer, production designer, etc. will work and from which the film will be shot.

Storyboarding is a sequence of drawings, typically by some directions and dialogue, representing the shots planned for a film or television production. Storyboarding is good because its an easy way to get your vision across. A visual aid makes it much easier for you to share and explain your vision to others. It also makes development much easier too, when you storyboard for a film you’re setting up a plan for production, including all the shots you’ll need, the order that they’ll be set out, and how the visuals will interact with the script.

Filming also took place in Atlanta, with locations including Grady High School, Downtown Atlanta, the Atlanta Marriott Marquis, Piedmont Park, the Georgia World Congress Center, and the West End neighbourhood. Tom Holland said, "building New York sets in Atlanta was cheaper than actually filming in New York". A replica of the Staten Island Ferry was built in Atlanta, with the ability to open and close in half in 10 to 12 seconds and be flooded with 40,000 gallons of water in 8 seconds. Additional filming also occurred at two magnet schools in the Van Nuys and Reseda neighbourhoods of Los Angeles.

This poster shows that the audience is mostly targeted toward the male demographic because there is 4 male characters to the 2 female characters and the colour blue is strong conatating the male dominate cast. It's also targeted to the younger audience this show by all the bright colours. As you can see the Marvel logo is above the title so it's towards those type of comic fans.

Spider-man Homecoming uses a range of different advertisements to promote. Spider-man Homecoming uses bus stop to advertise the movie, this is good because the demographic for Homecoming is young and most young people use public transport meaning while they are waiting for the bus they see the poster for Homecoming and then be interested to go and see the movie. Another way Spider-man Homecoming is promoted is it's on the side of buses. This way of advertisement is smart because a bus reaches out to the masses of people also a bus travels to the main towns and cities which are highly populated with people meaning they have a higher chance of people see the advertisement on the side of the bus then going to see the film. Billboards are used to promote Homecoming which as the same appeal of buses meaning lots of people see the billboard and billboards are usually in the highest populated places so it has the chance to be seen by millions. Another way Spider-man Homecoming is hitting towards it's demographic is it's advertising the film in magazines that it's audience is reading at the moment.
