I am an English educator based in Thessaloniki, a culturally rich urban center with a distinctive Greek dialect and strong community traditions. I am originally form Volos, but I live in Thessaloniki since 2015. In the private education sector, I engage students ranging from A Junior to Proficiency levels, focusing on preparing them for lower and proficiency exams (e.g., Cambridge, Michigan, LRN, MSU, IELTS) through interactive and tailored instruction. My teaching experience spans language schools and private tutoring, where I employ digital tools like Wordwall, Quizlet, and WebQuest to enhance engagement and learning outcomes. My students come from diverse cultural backgrounds and teaching them has been an immense pleasure. In this program, I aim to further develop my knowledge of innovative language teaching methodologies, with a particular interest in advancing critical thinking and language proficiency in my students while developing cultural awareness and developing into global citizens.

I am 24 years old and I am from Amyntaio, Florina, but I''ve been living in Thessaloniki since 2018. I graduated the School of English in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and I've been teaching English in private language centers ever since. I'm currently working in two different schools, which use completely dicfferent methods of EFL teaching; the one is grammar-translation based (God, I know...) and the other one is TBL-communication based! I love comparing the two systems and I always get amazed at how well communicative approaches work! I teach all levels of proficiency, I see around 18 classes a week and my students are mostly greek, but a great amount of students in one school are Albanian. I look forward to seeing what this module has to offer in terms of intercultural communication, as I believe it will help greek and albanian students get a better view of their own and the english culture through our classes.

Hello Dr Sarri and fellow colleagues,

My name is Lamprini Stergiouli and I come from Mouzaki, a small country town located in Kadritsa prefecture. I’ve studied English language and literature in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and graduated in 2009. Since then I've worked mainly as a private tutor and in a few language centers as well.

In 2018 I attended a nine-month training programme learning to administer psychometric tools, which help in detecting learning difficulties. I’ve also acquired knowledge about the design of intervention programs in Greek using specific strategies.

Within 2021-2023 I worked as a substitute English teacher in the public sector both in elementary, junior high schools and a vocational high school. Currently I was hired again to work in state schools and I’m teaching in two primary schools in Lakonia district. My classes are of mixed ability, without intense differentiation in students’ intellectual level, and multicultural of course. There are quite a few students that come from Albania. Some of them have been born in Greece, others are newcomers. There are also pupils being born and raised in Greece but their mothers come from other countries such as Romania and Ethiopia. The school tries to smoothly integrate them into the Greek culture and aid them in learning Greek. These children and their families are also welcomed by the local community.

I registered for this module in order to acquire more knowledge of understanding cultural issues and learn more practical ways in order to raise my students’ cultural awareness so that they can understand and respect the otherness.

I wish all of you a fruitful winter semester!

Kind regards,

Lamprini Stergiouli

My village and the surrounding area are inhabited by third- and fourth-generation refugees who came from Cappadocia and Artaki. There are still elderly people who speak the Karamanli dialect, which was used by Orthodox Christians in the Ottoman Empire. The traditions, dances, and foods are influenced by the homeland of our ancestors from back then.

I graduated from the English Department of the Aristotle University in 2021 and since then I have been teaching English to all levels of proficiency in private language schools.
