However I can discuss the future in two ways. Firstly, my future profession in teaching will be an exciting and challenging journey. I have to plan for:

  • Challenge and enjoyment
  • Breadth
  • Progression
  • Depth
  • Personalisation and choice
  • Coherence
  • Relevance
These are the seven principles of the Scottish curriculum: A Curriculum for Excellence. I believe that by using tablets and through effective planning that I can ensure all seven principles are met. I also believe that in doing so children's motivation and interest in tasks will improve.Secondly, I strongly believe in preparing children with life skills for the future. I understand that technology plays an important role in this and think it is crucial that all teachers keep as up to date as possible with advancements in society. Not all children will have the same experience at home and some may never have touched a tablet, therefore, the skills gained from learning in school are extremely valuable.

I anticipate that although there are many benefits to using tablets, I would inevitably face some challenges. I have created a list of the challenges I believe I would face:

  • Cost
  • Implementation
  • Wifi
  • Trained technician
  • Training
  • Amount available
  • Setting

I anticipate there will be classroom challenges when using tablets. Some of these challenges may be:

  • Previous knowledge of the children
  • Time to train the children
  • Children being more experienced than the teacher
  • Booking the tablets if they are limited
  • Planning
  • Classroom rules
  • Children leading their own learning - how far?
  • If any of the tablets become damaged (behaviour issues)
  • Time spent on the tablets
  • Assessment
  • Evidence of learning for the teacher
  • Parents co-operation
Although there are many challenges, I still believe that these challenges can be overcome and the use of tablets in the classroom will benefit children's learning.
