At the end, they were catcalled and harassed bye a creepy man. This traumatized the girls and they never wanted to wear their pretty shoes ever again. I think the pretty shoes really symbolize beauty and appealing to the male gaze. How it can be joyful to be pretty, feel pretty and be called pretty.
