What I know about architecture as a fine art (before taking the module)

Before starting the module, I did not have any idea on any type of architecture besides the obvious through media. I did know of greek columns and rounded arches through some shows I watched as a child, but nothing particular detailed. Previously, I looked at architecture as nothing more that buildings and maybe detailed floor plans from early European churches. I was rarely awestruck by any building before the module had started. It was because of these reasons that I had very little appreciation of architecture as a fine art.

What I learned on architecture after the module

In short, I learned the beauty that can be found in architecture. The early lessons of differentiating Greek and Roman styles confounded me as I had never realized so many hidden details that the casual viewer sees. I have also gained the ideas of how meticulously church floor designs were planned. For example, an architecture could spend an absurd amount of time just getting the perfect amount of sunlight drawn from the roof to showcase in a room. I have also learned to admire the certain intricacies of ancient and modern architecture such as columns and entablatures. One particular architectural piece that continues to fascinate me is Falling Water by Frank Lloyd Wright. The fact that house was built at that period while still looking modern today, showed me how to really appreciate beauty in architecture.

Within the span of a month, Ms Leynes seemed to have covered the majority of what the essence of architecture is. We looked at ancient, historical, and modern. I would have liked to learn about modern day towers, such as the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and Taipei 101. Other than that, there was not much as that you had already covered in class. Though it was only a brief amount of time, our class seemed to have covered a wide variety of the subject in such little time.
