         <description><![CDATA[<p>New York had a unit of 490 soldiers called the Zouaves. They served in the Army of the Potomac and were named after berber riflemen in the French Army. They fought mostly in Virginia. One battle they fought in was the Battle of Second Bull Run. In the battle the unit had many losses and had the greatest loss of any infantry regiment in a single battle.</p>]]></description>

He was first a lawyer and politician in New York and was also in the Senate and House of Representatives. He was promoted to Major General in 1862. He fought in the Battle of Chancellorsville and gained a key piece of ground called Hazel Grove. He also fought in the Battle of Gettysburg and recieved a medal of honor for his actions. In conclusion, Daniel E. Sickles played a key part in the  outcomes of some battles.</p>]]></description>

They had connections with the Irish Brigade and had the most total casualties of an regiment in the whole war with 259 casualties. The 69th regiment and the other New York regiments accounted for about 50% of casualties in the Civil War. The 69th regiment along with the other New York regiments were crucial to win the war.</p>]]></description>
