First Briefing Session (21/10/2024)

We had our briefing with our supervisor on Monday, 21/10/2024. This meeting was a joint meeting with Dr Zakiuddin and his supervisee to discuss together on what we will be working on. For our Final Year Project, I will be working with Eugenia, Kharinnisa and Sonia. We will also be working with Carolina and Hennessia, who is under Dr Zakiuddin supervision.

Above is another document given by Dr Zakiuddin. ICOP is used to classify substance and mixture according to their health, environment physical hazard. Its objective is to provide guideline for the complience of the requirement of the Regulations.

This is an example of Safety Data Sheet (SDS) Dr Zakiuddin had showed and explained to us during this meeting. A Safety Data Sheet is important to have for every chemical because it provides information on the hazards of working with chemicals and how to safely handle, store, and transport them. It is necessary for a chemical production company who sells and distribute chemical to produce these documents.

During week 4, I had written and submitted Executive Summary which is assessable at my Executive Summary section. I had also conducted some research to have a grip and a bit more knowledge on what I am going to do in the following week

1st meeting with Encik Sidek, Faculty of Agriculture's Lecturer (5/11/2024)

During Week 5, we had our first interview with Encik Sidek, lecturer of Faculty Of Agriculture. He will be responsible of guiding us as well as helping us with our Final Year Project (CHE 365). Throughout our visit at Blok N, he had helped us by providing information about the process of handling the chemicals, safety precaution when conducting task and how chemicals are managed after being used.

2nd briefing with Dr Zakiuddin (4/11/2024)

We had our second meeting with Dr Zakiuddin on the 4th of November 2024. During this meeting we had discuss some of the area that is available to conduct our Chemical Health Risk Assessment. The following are the area that is available.

- Blok H : Biology and Chemical Laboratory
- Blok P : Tissue Culture Laboratory, Insect Laboratory and Chemical Laboratory
Faculty of Agriculture (Farm)
- Farming Area
- Netting Area

1st meeting with Encik Damid, Faculty of Agriculture's Worker (8/11/2024)

During this meeting, me and Sonia were joined by Carolina and Hennesia. We had our interview with one of the worker, Encik Damid. Througout this meeting, we had explore around the Netting Area as well as discussion of what and how chemical are handled. We had also looked at the fertilizer's storage, equipment used for insecticide and all the machinery.

Compiled Collected Data

During week 6, we had compiled all our of our data in 1 documents. This data include block H, laboratories in Blok P and Netting Area. The data collected is checked reviewed by Dr Zakiuddin. This is to ensure that the work area that we will be conducting our Final Year Project at is not too difficult and time consuming. This document also include drawings of every layout of the area which we will be conducting our Final Year Project at.

First meeting with Miss Rahimah, Lab Assistant of Faculty Of Agriculture (29/11/2024)

On 29th of November 2024, we had our first meeting with Miss Rahimah, lab assistant of Faculty Of Agriculture. In this meetingg, we went to visit the lab that we were assigned. In my case, it would be Insect Lab, P108. Throughout our visit. Miss Rahimah really helped us to gather and gain all the necessary information that we needed. Unfortunately, due to my lab small working area, there was never any experiment conducted there yet. Fortunately, there another lab that I can conduct my Final Year Project at. This would be Lab, P107. At the end of the meeting, I had discuss with Dr Zakiuddin and switch my area to Tissue Culture Lab, P107.

Division of Work Unit (25/11/2024)

On the 25th of November 2024, Dr Zakiuddin had gone through the data that we collected. Unfortunately, the area that me and Sonia will be working at is too big and might need a lot of time to conduct our Chemical Health Risk Assessment (CHRA). Therefore, Dr Zakiuddin had assigned my to another lab at Block P which is P108.

Quantitative Evaluation

On week 7, quantitative evaluation were conducted by following guideline outlined by Chemical Hazardous Risk Assessment (CHRA) manual and the Industry Code Of Practice (ICOP). After compiling all the information we needed and filling in Form A (Work Unit Description), the next crucial step would be to complete form B: List of Chemical Hazardous To Health Assessed. The work unit involved in Laboratory P-107 would be lab assistant preparing chemicals for Faculty of Agriculture student laboratory experiment.

5 chemicals used involve only dilution processes without mixing with other chemicals. However, some chemicals may be used through mixing, dilution, or direct application from the container. The combination of hazardous chemicals can potentially increase exposure levels.

On week 9, we went to Laboratory P-107 to identify the workflow, chemical handling as well as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) used by the lab assisstant.

On week 10, we did a consultation with Dr Zakiuddin regarding our calculation and progress on table B and table C. Dr Zakiuddin had guided us to calculate PEL value as well as completing table C

On week 11, we had our last consultation with Dr. Zakiuddin. We had a discussion regarding report writting. As for my part, I had checked my progress on table C and table D. During this dicussion, Dr. Zakiuddin had given us a clear guideline on report writing and what we can put in our report.

On week 12, I had started researching on material for literature review. Throughout my research, I had researched about Chemical Health Risk Assessment (CHRA), accident that had occured at laboratories as well as the importance of conduction of Chemical Health Risk Assessment (CHRA).

On week 14, I had submitted my first draft at the link given by the lecturer in-charged. During this period of time, I had also submitted my first draft to my supervisor for her reference. I had also started on my poster during this time.

On week 15, we had Symposium where we present our Final Year Project. During this period of time I have also started working on my Final report for it to be submitted. With this, my Final Year Project journey reaches its conclusion.
