Iḥsān means doing everything in the best way — worshipping Allah sincerely as if you see Him, and dealing with people with kindness and excellence. It goes beyond just doing the minimum; it is about perfection in faith, worship, and character.

Eschatology (belief in the Hereafter) reminds us that every action will be judged by Allah. Those who live with Iḥsān strive for Allah’s pleasure, knowing that Paradise is the reward for excellence, while neglect and wrongdoing lead to punishment.

To conclude, Iḥsān prepares a believer for the Hereafter. By practicing excellence in worship and conduct, a person gains Allah’s mercy and earns eternal success in Paradise.

Hikmah is the wisdom behind Islamic practices that helps shape a Muslim’s faith, character, and daily actions. Understanding the hikmah of ibadah, niat, amal, and ihsan encourages sincerity, consistency, and excellence in worship and life.

1. Ibadah

-Ibadah connects a believer directly to Allah through acts such as prayer, fasting, and remembrance. This constant connection nurtures love, dependence, and trust in Allah, making faith stronger and more meaningful.

-Regular acts of worship train a Muslim to manage time, control desires, and remain committed. This discipline extends into daily life, helping a person become more responsible and organized.

2. Niat

-Niat directs the heart to perform actions purely for the sake of Allah, not for praise or personal gain. Sincere intentions purify deeds and protect a person from hypocrisy.

-With the correct niat, even ordinary daily activities can become acts of worship. This shows Allah’s mercy in rewarding intention alongside action.

3. Amal

-True belief is shown through amal. Good deeds prove that faith is not only in the heart but practiced through actions that align with Islamic teachings.

-Good amal such as honesty, charity, and kindness improves personal character and creates a just, caring, and harmonious community.

4. Ihsan

-Ihsan motivates a Muslim to perform every act with quality and care, not just to fulfill an obligation. This leads to better worship and higher moral standards.

-Believing that Allah sees everything strengthens self-control and integrity. A person avoids wrongdoing even when alone, leading to strong character and inner peace.

Fasting is an act of worship in Islam where a Muslim abstains from food, drink, and actions that break the fast from dawn (fajr) until sunset (maghrib), with the intention (niyyah) of obeying Allah.

Benefits of Fasting

Fasting brings many benefits to both the individual and society.

Definition of Zakat

Zakat is an obligatory act of worship in Islam in which a Muslim gives a portion of their wealth to eligible recipients. Its purpose is to purify and bless one’s wealth (zaki means “to grow or become good”), teach humility, and remind Muslims that all property ultimately belongs to Allah. Zakat strengthens social bonds, reduces inequality, and ensures the well-being of the Muslim community.

Technical Aspects of Zakat

Zakat is compulsory for eligible Muslims and prescribed by Allah. It differs from regular tax because it is a form of worship, has specific recipients, a fixed amount, and is given at a specific period. Islam emphasizes that religion is not only about spirituality but also about social responsibility (shumuliyyah), ensuring wealth circulates fairly and benefits the needy.

Zakat vs Charity

Unlike charity, which is voluntary, informal, and can be given anytime or in any amount, zakat is mandatory, formal, and must be given in a fixed portion to specific recipients. Charity is flexible in timing, amount, and recipient, while zakat follows clear rules to ensure fairness and structured support for the community.

Virtues of Zakat

1. Individual Virtue – Tawakkul (Reliance on Allah)

By paying zakat, a Muslim learns to trust in Allah and understand that wealth ultimately belongs to Him. This act strengthens faith, encourages gratitude, and reminds the individual to be content and rely on Allah for provision. As stated in Surah Al-Anfal 8:1-4,

“They ask you, [O Muhammad], about the bounties [of war]. Say, ‘The [decision concerning] bounties is for Allah and the Messenger.’ So fear Allah and amend that which is between you and obey Allah and His Messenger, if you should be believers.”

“The believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts become fearful, and when His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith; and upon their Lord they rely—”

“Who establish prayer, and from what We have provided them, they spend.”

“Those are the believers, truly. For them are degrees [of high position] with their Lord and forgiveness and noble provision.”

2. Societal Virtue – Ukhwah (Brotherhood and Social Harmony)

Zakat fosters unity and brotherhood within the Muslim community by reducing the gap between rich and poor. It encourages care for others, creates social harmony, and raises awareness of the needs and rights of fellow Muslims.
