The 1919 Baseball season had many controversies during this time. However nothing compares to what happened during the World Series. During the world series, the Chicago White Sox were heavy favorites to beat the Cincinnati Reds because of the dominating season that they had. However, lots of controversy surrounded the MLB due to lack of financial aid to the athletes. MLB players believed that they weren't getting enough money to pay for their overall needs.

During the season in 1919, a lot of controversy hit baseball in one of the most recognizable events in baseball history. It was players such as "Shoeless Joe Jackson" who had his career because of this problem. Gamblers would bet high during world series games and they would bet on who would win and possibly who wouldn't. The first baseman of the White Sox named Gandil and gambler Sullivan went and met and talked about different ways to throw the game. Players such as Buck Weaver and Claude Williams were part of the conversation as well. However, Buck denies any talks with the gamblers after he was almost caught by Oscar Felsch.

-The players were given $20,000 each for every game they lost. Teams at the time had to win 5 games to win the World Series and since they lost 5 games they all got $100,000 each.
-That was really good money back then.
-It would be $1,375,640.88 in today´s money.
