This is the Nanna Ziggurat also known as the Ziggurat of Ur that was constructed by King Ur Nammu. Built for the moon Goddess Nanna, it is one of the most spectacular remaining ziggurats. It's core was built with mud brick while the exterior was covered in baked brick. The Sumerians believed the higher the ziggurat the closer to the Gods. The ziggurat is composed of 3 staircases with a temple/ shrine at the very top. While it was used for ritualistic/ worshiping purposes, it was also used as an administrative center for the city.

The best preserved ancient Roman monument is The Pantheon. This building has served many purposes over time starting out as a temple to now being a major tourist attraction. This circular temple, constructed under the reign of Emperor Hadrian, was built to honor all of the Gods. The front of the building is supported by massive columns with marble bases and Corinthian capitals made of marble. The building itself is made of concrete and brick. It's most known for it's dome structure with an open oculus on the top that measures 30ft across. This oculus provides the main light source. The inside of the Pantheon is covered in colored marble geometric shaped flooring. The dome is supported by a coffered ceiling to help lighten its weight.

Cathedral of Saint-Pierre (13th century) Gothic

The Cathedral of Saint-Pierre, located in Beauvais, France, is one of the greatest Gothic architectures to have ever been built. The cathedral is composed of the choir and transept. It once had a spire that was 153 metres in height during the late 1500's. Due to structural flaws of the cathedral it has partially collapsed a couple of times over the centuries. To help stabilize the building architects added flying buttresses. The cathedral is made out of wood and iron with majestic pieces of stained glass. After almost 800 years, Cathedral of Saint-Pierre is still considered incomplete because a nave was never added to it.
