Firstly this reader has seen a clear use of repetition to symbolize an important aspect. As in the poem "Dreams" Hughes uses repetition to symbolize the importance of the power and importance of dreams, while in "Caged Bird"repetition is used to show the negative effects of not having hope. Though one can say they use repetition of negativity to help contrast or exaggerate which allows the authors to convey a powerful message and mood.

While Hughes used repetition in "Caged Bird" to illustrate the negative effects of losing hope, in "Dreams" he utilises it to symbolise the strength and significance of dreams. Even so, it may be argued that the writers employ repetition of negativity to highlight or contrast, which helps them to create a strong mood and message.
