Guatemala is the country of Central America. the origin of the infamous name, Guatemala, is so called idigenous. The meaning is undetermined and so is it's derivation. Some people are convinced that its name origin comes from the word Quauhtemallan. Others also think it is derived from the word Guhatezmalha. Guhatezmalha meaning "The Mountan of Vomiting Water".

The name "Guatemala" actually officially comes from "The place of many trees". Guatemala even has a really rich coffee culture, as coffee is one of they're main exports. Guatemalas bird is the Quetzal which appears on the flag and their currency. The place of many trees even has a park called "Tikal national park" It is a UNESCO world heritage site including a wild jungle and well-preserved ancient Maya ruins. This country even has 30 volcanoes including, Fuego, Pacaya, and Santiaguito. Visitors even roast marshmellos on volcanoes.

Semana Santa (one of they're most popular holidays). Also known as the holy week. They all celebrate with Alfombras which are colorful carpets. they also feature religous processions by celebrating the Easter story. This involves floats with religous imagery and sculptures. These relate to the passion of christ.

There is another holiday called all saints day. This holiday has people celebrating the deceased and decorating they're graves. All Saints Day is also known as "All Hallows Day", "The Feast Of All Saints", and even known as "The Solemnity Of All Saints". This holiday was originated in the 4th century making it one of the oldest christian feasts. It used to be celebrated on November 14th but as moved to the day of November 1st by Pope lll in the 8th century. Many other catholic countries celebrate this holiday aside from Guatemala.

Guatemala has many traditions. They even have some interesting ones. The most interesting one that stands out to me the most is called "The money dance". The money dance is usually at wedding receptions where the guests offer the newlyweds money to dance with them. This tradition may have gotten its origination from Poland in the 20th century. The other names for this tradition are The dollar dance, Money spray, or the apron dance.

They serve many traditional food. The one that caught my eye is the so called Kak ik. Kak ik is a soup that is made from a type of turkey called "chompipe". This soup originated with the Q'eqchi Maya people they call this an "Ancestral dish". This dish is usually eaten with rice, White tamales, chille, and a cocoa drink. They usually serve this at weddings too.

According to research, Guatemalan culture stands out from others because of its unique blend of cultural colors and indigenous Mayan traditions.This is also because of the spanish colonial influences. Its music is also a big part of their culture too. Their Mayan heritage also plays a big part in this too. Guatemala is a multi ethnic society too. They even have a highamount of languages they speak across the country so all are welcome.

Overall this was a pretty fun little project to research on. I even learned a lot about guatemala. I'm excited for the other projects to come.
