Who claims this term?

Kimberle Crenshaw speaks about a woman who is faced with both sexism and racism, when being hired for a job. She says that without a term for this form of treatment, nobody will understand or even know about the issues. Crenshaw coins the term Intersectionality, the injustices made when faced by two or more types of social dynamics.

I would have to agree with Crenshaw on the idea that there must be a term or people will not know or understand the issue. Unfortunately until I read and researched this topic, I was unaware of these issues that people face every day. The only intersectionality injustice I feel I have dealt with mostly involve me being a woman, and my age. This happens mostly at work, or at school with my male professors. People think of me a stupid because I am a “millennial,” they think of me as being incapable of doing easy tasks on my own, they question my motives if I become sick, or have to leave early do my homework. They think that because I am 23 I haven’t experienced life like they have, so my life should be care free and easy. Being a woman, my professor’s treat us female students much different then they treat the male students. When I question their ideas, or take a stance for mine, somehow it gets turned into me being crabby, or me not listening. I have seen fellow male classmates act the same way, and they are applauded for standing up for their work, this is something that makes me cringe.

Kimberle brings up an issue that is very important for people who are victims of this double prosecution. People need to be aware of this so they can help create equality justices for all.

https://www.ted.com/talks/kimberle_crenshaw_the_urgency_of_intersectionality?language=ml#t-675921

Mothers

I would say that being a woman and a mother is form of intersectionality. This organization of woman, of all colors, are mothers and fathers fighting for justice and equality for their children who have been murdered by injustices and inequalities. Being a mother greatly affect one’s personal attributes, adding to the amount of cross sections of intersectionality. I think that mothers of all races coming together to fight these injustices is incredible, and I think that there is something to be said about these women coming together despite all their differences. These parents know the true heartbreak that is caused by institution and inequality, I believe they put aside these differences to become stronger in their fight for justice and equality.

http://mothersforjusticeandequality.org/about/

Everyone loves Raven Symone. Her interview with Opera is really interesting, because both woman are very strong advocates for equality of people. Raven says she does not want to be labeled, as gay or African American. She wants to be labeled as a person who loves people, and she is from America.

I think Raven has a really great point, I always hated being labeled in high school. There were the cool kids, the nerds, the weird kids etc. I never could understand why we couldn't all just be nice to one another, and stop making preconceived notions that are based on who you sit with at lunch. Raven is saying she doesn't want to be judged based on the psychical, but by character.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXAho8vlmAI
