Eileen, Hester, Caroline, Annabel, and Kiki are here to support you from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday. Please find our spaces below (you may use equipment after and induction or under supervision):

• CG01: located on the ground floor, next to the canteen. The costume store is based here, and 1st and 2nd year costume students.

• B105: 3rd year costume students are based here.

• B102: the costume archive is based here. The space is open by booking only.

• B114: MA Costume space Tues- Thurs / flexible costume space

• B115: flexible costume space. The space is open by booking only.

• B116: digital and hand embroidery.

• B117: digital textiles and millinery.

  
  

The spaces are dedicated to the BA & MA Costume courses, however other students can use the resource through negotiation with the technicians.

The spaces are equipped with pattern tables, basic pattern blocks, pattern paper and meter sticks for everyone to use. However, students are expected to supply a basic kit and a foot and bobbin case for the domestic machines.

Donated materials & scraps

There are scrap fabric baskets in the Costume Studio (CG01) & Costume Atelier (Room 105) for all students to donate to and use as required. Please ask a technician for other donated materials that are available for free. Access to our Donation storage is by appointment only and students must be accompanied by a member of staff.

Access for costume students:

1. Attend an induction 
   An induction is required before using any of the equipment. This is timetabled at the beginning of the 1^st year and must be attended. Refresher sessions can be arranged at any time.
   
   

2. Speak to a technician 
   We are available for any questions within opening times. 
   
   

3. Book a 1-2-1 technical support appointment
   For more in depth teaching and advice, 1-2-1 sessions can also be booked with a technician, just ask. Sessions are timetabled on a weekly basis.
   
   

4. Work safely and clean up after working
   The studio is a clean space. No food or drink is allowed and appropriate footwear is to be worn at all times. Respect others' working environment and tidy up after yourself. Please return all equipment and tidy your work away.
   
   

5. Borrowing equipment
   Loan cards are supplied to costume students to allow the borrowing of specialist equipment e.g. hat blocks.

Access for all other students:

1.  Attend an induction
   This will be a 1-2-1 induction and can be machine specific. Book with a technician either via email or in person.
   
   

2. Book a 1-2-1 technical support appointment
   Book a 1-2-1 session with a technician either via email or in person.
   
   

3. Borrowing equipment
   Speak to a Technician to negotiate availability and to book item out. Do not take any borrowed equipment home. Borrowed items are not to leave the studio spaces.
   
   

4. Using the space
   Access must be negotiated with a technician first before use. If you do use the space you will need to work safely, clean up after working and respect the work of others around you.

Monday - Friday:

10am - 1pm & 2 - 5pm

No technical support from 5pm onwards or on weekends.

After 5pm & weekends CG01 studio is open and monitored by Studio Supervisor. This studio will be only one fully open. Other studios there will only be use of domestic machines after 5pm

Costume store
Scheduled times only to pick up student course packs.

To purchase material and packs from the store students need to pay via the e-store.

Costume students, once inducted, are trusted to responsibly use the equipment and space within college opening hours as follows:

Monday - Friday: 9am - 8:30 pm (Fridays till 6pm only)

Saturday: 10am - 4pm
