Artist Statement

I wanted this piece to be an artistic depiction of how I feel when I create art. The overall motif of this is meant to be a clock but due to the limitations on letters and symbols, I had to get creative. Honestly, this limitation pushed me to think even more creatively. Having the stars, sun and moon represent time rather then just putting number- perfectly encapsulates how I lose track of time when I create. I simply see the time of day change around me as i'm hyper-focused on my art. The main part of this sculpture is very much the hand, thought the process I changed and scrapped a lot of ideas but a hand with a nail through it was one of my very first ideas that I kept. Religious symbols in art is some of my favorite but its also there to say that the hands of an artist sacrifice for their art, and that creation is something very powerful. To me, real art is built off of the hard working hands of the creator. Besides the religious aspect however, the hand being put in the middle of the clock was put there to show how my life centers around my creations, I enjoy letting art take up my days and my time.
