Rapunzel lives in a tower in a hidden location with her mother. She gets bored when she is all alone, but never disobeys her mother, until one day when she decides to finally see the lights she has longed to see for so many years.

Call to adventure

Rapunzel was planning on seeing the lights alone, when an unexpected visitor, flynn rider, stops by her tower. He has stolen the crown from the royal castle and his running from his "partners in crime". He then promises to take her to the floating lanterns on her birthday.

Refusal to the call

When Rapunzel first feels the soft grass on her feet, she is filled with joy. As time passed on that wonderful day, Rapunzel started to doubt her decision of leaving her home. She second guesses her decision to keep going on the adventure of a life time or go back to her tower. Flynn tries to convince her to be independent, but she believes her mothers words are true about the world being wicked, which makes her decision even harder.

Meeting the mentor

Rapunzel's mentor is somebody that has been by her side throughout her long days in the tower. This is Pascal. He always agrees with Rapunzel and helps her with tough decisions during her journey.

crossing the threshold

At this point Rapunzel is still second guessing her decision but she decided to continue on their journey. They first stopped at this Snuggly Duckling bar. This is where Rapunzel is encouraged by all the men to go and follow her dream and go see the lanterns.

Allies, Trials, and enemies

Throughout Rapunzel's journey, she encounters many challenges. Mother Gothel's actions reveal her real intentions. Another challenge that they face is the Stabbington brothers. They were originally partners with Flynn, but when he stole the crown, and left them in the hands of the guards, they turned out to being one of his most dangerous enemies. The last difficulty that they encountered was the royal guards, who were after Flynn for stealing the crown.

Approach to the inmost cave

Rapunzel and Eugene get a truce and then go see the floating lights. In that morning, Maximus finds the pair and tries to arrest Flynn, but Rapunzel arranges a truce in honor of her birthday. The group reaches the kingdom and enjoys the festivities, culminating in an evening cruise as the lanterns are released.

The supreme ordeal

Rapunzel gives Eugene the crown after fulfilling her dream of seeing the lanterns in person. Rapunzel and Eugene realize they have fallen in love and are about to kiss when Eugene notices the stabbing-tons onto the shore. Eugene leaves Rapunzel to give them the crown, but they knock him out, tie him to a boat and attempt to capture Rapunzel, after convincing her that Eugene has left her. Gothel then stages a rescue, betraying and incapacitating the brothers, and leaves with Rapunzel as Eugene and the stabbing-tons are detained at the palace.

Reward

As Eugene is sentenced to hang, Maximus and the ducking thugs help him escape. Maximus then carries him back to Gothels tower.

The road back

Back at the tower, Rapunzel recognizes the symbol of the kingdom, which she had subconsciously incorporated into her paintings over the years. Realizing that she is the long-lost princess, she confronts Gothel.

The Resurrection

Eugene enter by climbing Rapunzel's hair only to find Rapunzel chained and gagged. Gothel finally stabs Eugene and tries to force Rapunzel to leave with her, but Rapunzel agrees to submit forever willingly if she is aloud to heal Eugene. Eugene, wanting Rapunzel to be free, instead slices off her hair, destroying its magic and causing Gothels age to suddenly catch up with her. She trips and falls out of the window of the tower, turning to dust even before she hits the ground.

Return with a prize

A heartbroken Rapunzel mourns for Eugene who dies in her arms. However, her tear, which still contains some of the sun's power, lands on his cheek and restores his life. The two return to the kingdom and Rapunzel reunites with her parents, overjoyed, the kingdom breaks out in celebration, and Eugene is pardoned for his crimes. Rapunzel and Eugene eventually married.
