Iceland it's a wonderful place on earth; the volcanic activities and the cold climate make the nickname "land of fire and ice". Here the 100% of the elecrticity comes from a renewable energy source produced by heat from volcanic activity under the surface and the force of the cascading waterfalls.

One of the most unique things about Iceland is that there are extreme geothermal activities going on underneath your feet throughout the entire country. The sands are boiling so you can bake bread; the temperature, in Celsius, it's about 95.

So we got 2 tectonic plates.
Plate tectonics is the theory that our planet's surface is broken up into several rigid sections of thick rock. There's seven major plates that make up the continents and many minor plates that fill up the rest of the Earth's crust.
These two are the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates, and they're constantly spreading apart from each other at a rate of about two and a half centimeters per year.
The friction from the shifting plates releases magma, which causes an incredible amount of heat to be released and work its way up to the surface.

Geothermal plant

There are 64 bore holes, each drilled almost a mile deep into the ground. That's about four and a quarter Empire State Buildings. They have big rotors and rotor blades. So the steam enters the turbine, and then it starts to rotate. And then the rotation turns into elecricity. Of course there are also some downsides. The magma contains CO2 and also hydrogen sulfide. But this plant makes about 3% of what it would emit if it was run by fossil fuel.
Fossil fuel plants include petroleum, natural gas, and others, and in 2017 fossil fuels accounted for 63% of the United States' electricity production.

Bore hole houses

This is a bore hole house. Inside every house there's a very deep drill. Here they inject the gases that they capture into the well that reaches about 2,000 meters down.
As the steam turns the turbines, the waste of CO2 is collected, diluted in water, and the piped deep back into the Earth. There, it chemically fuses to the porous volcanic rock below the Earth's surface and solidifies, so it never gets a chance to harm the atmosphere.

Gullfoss

This is Gullfoss, it's about 30 meters high.
According to a internet search, in 2017, roughly 1,340,000 people visited Gullfoss.
There are over 10,000 waterfalls in Iceland.
Water in motion produces negative ions, which are known to relive stress, reduce tension, fight depression, and increase energy, In short, all these negative ions are creating some very positive vibes

What is democracy

Democracy is one of the fundamental principles of the Unites Nations and according to them it should "provide an environment that respects human rights and fundamental freedoms, and in which the freely expressed will of people is exercised."

The freedom and the rights that we have nowadays are a result of struggle, protest and sacrifice mostly in Europe, Italy and North America; whereas in other nations, such as Belarus, Sudan, Cuba, China, North Korea, they're just dreams.

Democratic governament are based on the respect of the human rights, freedom and free election by universal suffrage. It also highlights the equality between man and woman but, sadly, this isn't the reality even in
developed countries.

In my opinion the speach made by Martin Luther King the 28 August 1963 where he says the famous words "I have a dream", has a huge importance in our society.

However democracy is at risk today as a consequence of the expansion of populist movements looking for nationalistic identity for example in Rome where people go around with swastikas on their body.

In the 21st century, we face the triple challenge of building democracies, preserving democracies and improving the quality of democracies.

Magna Carta

The Magna Carta is described as the most important early contribution to the establishment of constitutional law in English-speaking countries.

King John of England had violated a number of ancient laws and customs and in 1215 his barons rebelled against him and forced him to sign the Magna Carta, a document which lists a number of rights and freedoms that we now consider basic human rights. These include the right of the church to be free from government influence, the right of all free citizens to own and inherit property, and the right to justice. Significantly, the king himself was forced to accept that he too was subject to the law.

Although these rights and freedoms applied to 'free men', and thus excluded most of the population of Anglo-Saxon serfs, it is seem as one of the most important documents in the path towards democracy.

In the clause 39 the king promises not to imprision any free man without a fair trail; this clause is echoed in article 5 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, declaring the right to "liberty and security of person" and thagt "No one shall be deprived of his liberty."

Agenda 2030

On 25 September 2015, the 193 member states of the UN approved the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; this Agenda is made up of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be met by 2030 with the intention of "leaving no-one behind".

Development Goals aimed at addressing global challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, and promoting peace and justice.

The 2030 Agenda is based on five dimensions, also known as the 5Ps:

1) People

2) Planet

3) Prosperity

4) Peace

5) Partnership
