She goes into a diner, a laundromat, school, a fruit stand, a playground, and her neighbors stoop. There can be a small community created within the classroom that corresponds to the places she had gone within the book. The community that will be within the classroom will correspond more to the culture that is seen within the book, almost as if they are living the book out in reality. The community will also be more urbanized like the community within the book, there will also be “trash” to teach children to clean up after themselves and others to keep the places they love clean.  The students can then take on roles within the small community to act as if it is their everyday lives, like in the book. Each student can rotate their jobs while playing so each child can have a chance to be someone different within the community. 
This is crucial to the development of students because it can better help with a child’s attention and cognitive abilities, creativity, stronger verbal and social skills, and sensory stimulation. Dramatic play can also help guide students with daily conversations with their peers that are appropriate, learn how to speak to people in and outside of the classroom, and support creativity in children. Dramatic play is also an excellent way for children to begin to express themselves freely within a healthy environment and correspond real life scenarios while they are playing with others. This can help them begin to draw upon past experiences they have had more frequently and also begin to find themselves more as they continue to play and determine what they do or do not like.

  • Visual impairment- Students can vocalize to a teacher or aid what they believe to be their something beautiful and it can be documented/written down for the student to still be able to participate, a teacher can also explain in great detail the illustrations within the book and have students reciprocate how they interpret the illustrations within the book back to a teacher or aid. 
  • Verbal issue/ ESL- Verbal: Students can participate using their writings and drawings and show the class what they have written, a teacher/aid can also vocalize for the student, or also use communication technology with the student and their peers. ESL: The book will be available within other languages and the lesson plans can be given to students in another language. Students can also be put within groups and speak upon the assignment that has been given. 
  • Hearing impairment-  Students can use assistive listening devices for the group read aloud, they can also go within a different room with a teacher/aid to work on the book together to ensure they understand what they are reading. The student can then join the class for writing prompts and lessons with the guided help of an educator, ensuring no child is left out for whatever reason. The student can also have frequent breaks when needed and as much time as needed to fully grasp the understanding of the book and how it will correlate to the curriculum being taught. There can also be captioned media, and sign language interpreters if needed. 
  • Handicapped- The classroom will be free of physical barriers to provide access to every aspect of the classroom and ensure there can be full participation to students. Teachers can also modify policies, practices and procedures to ensure all children are being considered and are attaining the same information, auxiliary aids and services will also be provided.
  • Autism- Students will be provided with low-distraction work areas with one-on-one guidance with the reading of the book and the lessons that correspond, printed schedules of activities and events will be provided for students and their aids (daily), there will also be visual cues for common requests and earplugs if needed. There will also be sensory retreat spaces, exercise breaks, and as stated before, classroom aids.

  • Introduce students to different types of areas: suburbs, urban, rural
    1. Have them describe where they are from and draw a picture
  • Have the students walk around their school, and write down what they think is beautiful around their school, and compare it to other students in their class
  • Encourage the students to pick up trash and litter they find around their school to help to keep their school looking clean.
