robert hooke in the year 1665

bought a microscope and started observing things like a piece of food or a piece of cork and while he was looking at it he saw little boxes that reminded him of cells like the jail cells that show how we got the term cells. He contributed to the cell theory by watching a stopper through his magnifying lens, Hooke saw little boxlike cavities, which he outlined and depicted as cells. He had found plant cells! Hooke's achievement drove the understanding of cells as the littlest units of life—the establishment of cell hypothesis; he also wrote an article called Micrographia on his discovery.
