Jonas in the beginning of the story, started out by being this shy, little kid who didn’t mean any harm in his community. He never did anything wrong and all he wanted to know was what assignment he was going to be assigned once he turned 12. But as the story began to progress, he noticed that he wasn’t assigned a job when it came to the ceremony. After all the kids has gotten assigned their jobs, he was still seated without one. Until, they call his name and he walks to the stage confused. They announce that he is the new receiver of memories and will have to go through pain and sorrow. By the end, Jonas has already been a receiver for a year and grown as an individual because he has experienced joy, love, pain, and etc. He has become wiser and more responsible compared to in the beginning of the book. As a result, Jonas has not just grown as a person, but now knows that there is more to life than he could have ever imagined.

Jonas is a shy, kid in the beginning that questions everything to the community and why things are the way they are. He has never broken one rule, he was one of the kids that wouldn’t talk much except to Fiona and Asher. As the story progresses he becomes responsible when it comes to following the rules to his job. He learns about many other things that everyone else in the community wouldn't understand, he feels pain, love, he sees colors, and he learns what wanting is like. He sees the truth in the real world that only the receiver can understand. As the story progresses even more, he finds himself lying to the community and breaking the rules of leaving. Overall, Jonas learns how to control his memories, and mature as a person.

Jonas changed and adapted because he learned new things constantly throughout his years. At the beginning, Jonas was curious and apprehensive for what would happen with the rest of his life. He didn’t know how much more he can discover with the right opportunity. He knew that his life would change dramatically, but haven't had a clue of what he would become. When Jonas was with Gabe and going down the snowy hill he feels love, joyful, safe, and being welcomed. He feels love for Gabe, Joy going down the hill, then safe and welcomed because they see a shelter decorated with lights and has a reassuring presence. Therefore, Jonas has changed vigorously over the timeline of the story just by learning new things, and realized how horrible his community really was.

The change in Jonas’s character is drastic over the course of the novel. Jonas at the beginning of the book is someone who completely accepts the way his society is, and has no problems with it. He has no issues obeying the oppressive rules that have been fixed for his community. But, the fact that he can feel and see more than others doesn’t exactly change throughout the book, it just becomes more pronounced. Even before Jonas is chosen to become the Receiver of Memories, he is exposed to emotions more than others, and can see color (red). The transition in character for Jonas is a bit funny, as he is totally opposite at the end than he was at the beginning. He goes from being a person who completely accepts the way his society is to someone who is totally willing to destroy it. At the end, he is a more developed character, and is full with way more knowledge than the beginning. The best thing about this book is the way that people can change. Many things play into effect when a character develops, and this book truly shines bright in that factor.

Jonas was a normal 12 year old boy in the book The Giver who does the normal stuff in his community like play with his friends, do school work, and do volunteer hours which we find out later is watched by The Commitee of Elders who basically run the community at the Ceremony he is selected to be the Reciever which allows him to bend the rules and receive memories from the Giver. With those memories he receives wisdom about multiple things he then wants change. He says this and the Giver 100% agrees with him in the end and they create a plan for Jonas to leave the community and make the community feel those memoires.
In the beginning, jonas was a innocent kid, he was clueless. He did not now right from wrong or even color, he was shy and didn't know much, like what job he would have or even death. But when he started his job (receiver of memories) he started to understand and realize things that he would have never guessed, like the “release’ of a baby actually means that the baby is going to be killed and thrown away. Jonah made a choice to leave and take gabe to a far away land where they can be safe, and by leaving all the people will receive their memories and understand what they are doing. At the beginning he was terrified to break a rule but in the end he broke the biggest and most strict rule.

Jonas in the first few chapters was disconnected and lacked proper emotion, doing the same thing every day without much differentiation up until he became the Receiver of Memory. Jonas from then on changed, now able to see the world in color (literally and figuratively) and gained new experiences and emotions he had never felt before, such as affection and sorrow. He then decided to release the memories to his community, a highly rebellious move due to the strictness of his Elders.

Then once Jonas is selected to be “The Receiver” everything changed for him: rules, friends, and truth. Jonas finally saw what his community was. Jonas also began to feel feelings and how some feelings are good and other feelings are not as good. So basically Jonas has changed throughout the book by getting wiser.

I think that at the beginning of the story Jonas was just a normal kids trying to get by in school, family, responsibilities and just life in general. He was excited for what the future held for him like his assignment that any other average kid would be excited for. But, when we was selected for the Receiver he didn’t really know how to feel and that was a lot of unknown for someone who grew up in a community where that was not very common. He didn’t feel like there was anything special about him. Eventually, when he met the Giver and received the memories his point of view on his community, family, and friend changed. Suddenly, he realized that his whole life he was missing something actually, many things and he wanted others to experience them too. Eventually, it became to much and he couldn’t do it anymore. He didn’t know what to do anymore. So, he ran away. He changed a lot in the story. Breaking out of his shell and asking questions, lying, running away and doing pretty much everything that was against the rules instead of what he was like in the beginning he always did what he was told. These are all examples on how Jonas as changed.

He had slowly Changed as he had gotten the call to be the next receiver. It had changed him in multiple ways. The first way is that he had much different rules than everybody else including, not needing to use precision of speech, being able to ask questions, Etc. At the very end of the book he get strong and courageous. In the end he had changed a lot from the start to the end of the story.

Jonas started out as a innocent kid. He knew nothing. Of course he knew all about the technology, math, science, and skills that he was taught in school. But he knew nothing about the past. He knew nothing about why they lived the way that they lived. He knew nothing about color, or the choices that people used to be able to make. Now they live in a colorless world. A world full of nothing. Nothing there. He didn’t make a single choice for himself before he became the receiver in training. He was told what to do his whole life. But then when he became a receiver, he was introduced to a whole new world. He was shown through the memories that there was a whole world beyond what he knew. There were animals, and color, and fun. He loved not just seeing the memories, but living them. Living the past that could never truly be. Living in a world with love. Living. Actually living, not just being. But then he was shown pain. And he wanted his lifeless world back. He wanted to live without holding all of the pain. So he escaped to find elsewhere.

              He wanted to live.
Not just be.

For example, In the beginning of the story “The Giver”, Jonas was a pretty happy kid and he had a nice family unit. But he was about to be a twelve and still didn’t know what he wanted to do!! He volunteered everywhere so he was not so sure what job he would be assigned. He was also confused because one day he was playing catch with one of his friends at school, they were playing catch with an apple. But sometimes when he threw the apple it would flicker and look different for a second but then it would go back to normal. Towards the end of the story everything he had thought of collapsed. His own father was killing people and looked happy about it. His father was lying to him and the rest of his family, he saw things that nobody else sees, he feels things that body else feels, and he can’t even tell anyone…

He couldn’t see color just like everyone else in the community. He was kind, helpful, a volunteer. All of this changed after he became the giver. He had a whole new perspective of the world, the community and even his own family. He was now curious and wanted to see the outside world. He fled the community with gabe to get gabe a normal life in a different community, so he was trying to get gabe a better life so he is selfless. He overall in my opinion becomes a better person.

Jonas thought that the community was wonderful at the beginning of the story, and that it was better and more organized than Elsewhere. He could only see the color red, and he didn’t know what memories he would be receiving. He didn’t know what warfare was, and he didn’t know what death was. He also didn’t know that Release actually meant death. At the end of the story, Jonas despises the community and all that they do. He knows what warfare and hunting is, and what actually happens when people are Released. He hated receiving memories about death and destruction, but he receives them anyway to protect the people. He decides to take Gabriel and leave the community so that all the people will receive the colors and horrible memories, but he dies in the process.

In the book The Giver by Lois Lowry the main character of the story, Jonas goes through a lot of character development as the story goes on. In the beginning of the book he was a kind person, who always tried to help others, and stay within the rules. He was also a good student, and was very humble. As the book goes on he starts to learn more about feelings, and the things in the community that he thinks shouldn’t be there. This allowed him to truly feel things for the first time and made him think about his past. He then starts to become a more courageous person, and an even kinder person. This is shown throughout the book because as he starts to learn more he gets mad about how his community trend out to be. He was mad because he believed that colors, feelings, and the other memories that he was given should be given to everybody. This causes him to become more courageous because he then goes along with a plan that might put him in danger. He also has to try to save Gabriel even though he knows that it isn’t in the rules. His kindness is shown throughout the book because first he just helped people with tasks, while toward the end of the book he tries to save a kid who is doomed with certain death.

Over the course of The Giver, Jonas changed completely as a person by sort of “waking up” to reality and not the false “same” world that him and his entire community had been living for his entire life. For example, when The Giver transmits memories of previous generations and experiences, Jonas slowly realizes how much he had been missing out on his entire life and even more importantly why he was missing out on these things. The answer? His communities restriction of memories of the past, art, and emotion. Another example of how Jonas developed as a person was breaking the rules. Previously, he was someone who never really broke the rules but this all changed when he escaped the community with Gabe to save him from being released (death) and to search for a better, more humane life. Finally, a third way that Jonas changed throughout the course of The Giver was that he grew less and less close to his family unit because he realizes that they aren’t really his family, just people who he was assigned to be taken care of by.

Throughout the entire book, we have watched Jonas change in grow in ways that we never would have thought. At the beginning, Jonas is a normal boy, with a normal life. He was nervous for the Ceremony of 12 just like every other kid, but unlike the others he had no clue at all on what his job may be. But the difference is that he didn’t realize how corrupt and messed up his community was. But then at his ceremony, he gets a job that surprises everyone. He was picked as the Receiver, and that is when things really start to change. Jonas is no longer a shy, ordinary kid, but a smart, important one. He learns new things from memories and just from talking to the Giver and later even leaves his community, taking Gabriel along with him in hopes of saving him from being released. The only thing about him that doesn’t really change was his kind, loving personality, his brains, and his ability to tell when something is wrong.

Jonas from the book The Giver was the main character in a world without color and feeling. Before he was given color or feelings he was like everyone else. He had a best friend Asher which he could be happy with and was nervous that he would not like the job picked out for him. At the ceremony he was picked as the new special receiver that would train under the giver. He was given memories of the past world and discovered new things like snow and the sun. He also learned about pain, hunger, and war. He would be scared and happy that these things exist. He was sad no one knew about these things and wanted everyone to feel love but he realized that it could be dangerous. He made a plan to help everyone with the giver who was the only other person with feelings so he could only talk to the giver. He had to leave so that everyone could receive the memories but the giver had to stay behind to help everyone go through the pain. He took the newborn Gabriel with him to elsewhere because he was going to be released and Jonas did not want that. They escaped and were able to find somewhere where there was human life. He realized the only way to save everyone was to leave. He only cared for others in the end and wanted everyone to have a happy ending.

He follows the rules without question and feels nervous but eager about his future assignment, which will be given to him at the Ceremony of Twelve. However, after becoming the Receiver of Memory, Jonas begins to see the world in a new light. He experiences real emotions like love and pain for the first time, and he realizes that the community has taken away such important parts of life as choice, color, and true feelings. As he begins to receive more memories he becomes thoughtful, brave, and independent. By the end of the book, Jonas makes a difficult decision which results in him leaving the community to save Gabriel and give the memories back to the people. This shows he has grown into someone willing to stand up for what they believe in, even when it may be dangerous. Though Jonas changes a lot throughout the story, he always remains caring, thoughtful, and determined to do what is right.

Then that affects others in the community somethings are that he can see colors he can feel the sun and feelings like love, madness. Some people didn't know what the community was doing to them and they couldn't see colors like red orange, yellow green pink . They couldn't feel nothing like madness, love, excited. They couldn't feel the sun so embrace the warmthness in their bodys. That's how jonas create some responsibility within him and more caring for the people and develop something important things within him that's gonna change him for the better.

At the beginning he is obedient and doesn’t question anything anyone tells him, though at the end he is question everything and continuously breaking the rules of the community by escaping it. Jonas still continues to think about his family unit and friends. Though he wants them to feel, see, and hear more than anything. He changed from an obedient calm kid who was fine with everything to a rule breaker in the community. He no longer believes release is a good thing. He wouldn't hesitate to help someone who needed him though. Jonas receives multiple memories that brings him joy and happiness. Therefore he thinks more differently than he did in the beginning. Even if the people of the community din’t want change, he feels it’s for the best. This is how Jonas changed so dramatically.

Jonas begins as a typical member of his community accepting its rules and values without the question. He is naive and unaware of the true nature of the world around him. This is evident in his anticipation for the ceremony of 12 and his acceptance of the communities controlled environment. As jonas receives memories from the gives he begins to experience a range of emotions and sensations that were previously unknown of him. He learns about love, joy, pain, and loss, which broadens his understandings of life and the humas experience. This exposure to the full spectrum of emotions challenges his perception of the communities sameness.
