<title>My music training did not involve much around different cultures and people. A lot of what I learned was not very practical. It was through different musical trainings and experience with just teaching and working with kids of my population that I was able to experiment and figure out who I was and wanted to be as a teacher.</title>

<title>My musical upbringing was classical piano training and public school choir mostly by rote, singing classical choir literature. I loved it, and felt at home while also feeling like I wished I had access to so much more. Jazz piano and improvising was mysterious to me. I want to play rock music. There was so much I wanted to do, but had no access.</title>

<title>I had no formal musical training from Kindergarten through eighth grade except for a few years of unsuccessful piano lessons. I did sing in church with my choir and solo&#39;s. I went to a Performing Arts High School as a voice major where I was not the dominant culture. We sang and learned all types of music, which was fantastic. I went to a conservatory style college where I struggled to keep up and finished my combo degree in voice perf and music ed. </title>
