All of my dad's side lived in Hawaii for about 35 years, they came to Hawaii around 1989 by my great grandfather.

I interviewed my Auntie, Christine Cardenas, and these are his answers to my questions

1). "What was your lifestyle like in Hawaii and the Philippines?"

Her Answer: Her lifestyle during her childhood in Hawaii was really good because she grew up alongside her siblings and other family members and she lived middle class in both the Philippines and Hawaii. She always had her cousins, nieces, nephews and friends from the neighborhood over at the house that she grew up in, and she would always play outside until it was dark.

2.) "What school did you go too?"

Her Answer: She went to Likelike Elementary School from Kindergarten to 5th grade, Central Middle School(Aka Keelikolani Middle School) from 6th to 8th grade, and Farrington High school from 9th to 12th grade.

3.) "Did you had any after school jobs? If so what were they?"

Her Answer: She had one after school job which was Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) at the Kapiolani location when she was 16 years old during her junior to senior year of high school.

4.) "Where did you live in the Philippines? Or were you born here?"

Her Answer: She was born in Vigan, Ilocos Sur but she lived in Rios Vigan, Ilocos Sur for 1 year and 7 months. Then after, she lived in in Namalangan Santa, Ilocos Sur for 1 year before moving to Hawaii.

5.) "What was your reaction when you were going to move to Hawaii? Did you felt scared? Excited? Sad?"

Her Answer: She was only 2 years and 7 months old when she moved to Hawaii so she vaguely remember. But my grandma said that my auntie was excited and scared to ride the airplane that my auntie slept through the whole flight.

6.) "Was there any struggles you faced when moving to Hawaii? If so, what were they?"

Her Answer: When moving to Hawaii, my auntie struggled to speak both her native language, Ilocano and English. Once she started school, she stopped speaking Ilocano because no one else spoke it and that made her feel very ashamed. She also was placed in ESL (English as a second language) from Kindergarten to first grade because she needed extra support to learn and improve her English language skills.

7.) "What was your favorite food/beverage that Grandma Evie used to make? Or any kind of takeout."

Her Answer: She favorite food that my Grandma Evy used to make for me was Chicken with long rice. She also loved going to Tesoro(Now being called Hele I believe) to buy nachos and going to McDonald’s for their happy meal. My favorite beverage was Orange Fanta.
