Music is relevant in the book, The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, because this book includes symbolism of color that the represented by songs. And all of these songs are different depending on how the reader is able to perceive the setting as. The significance of music in the novel is that it sets the tone for upcoming events that could happen in the book. Such as when Daisy and Gatsby meet again, Gatsby’s first impression of meeting Daisy again is expressed through the song, “The way you look tonight”, by Frank Sinatra.

And as seen in the book, Gatsby is pleased with this meeting. And this song influences the mood of this novel because Gatsby is intrigued by Daisy because he did not know if she were to come to the dinner at Nick's house.

And this songs is similar to the previous song, “The way you look tonight”, by Frank Sinatra. And this also sets the mood for different scenes’ in the book because Gatsby starts to think about Daisy, and it has caused an obsession to occur, which reflects Gatsby’s actions in the book.

The rationale of Fitzgerald to include this song into the book is that in life Gatsby wanted to become successful. This was because he had someone to look up to, and that was Dan Cody. This sparked a revelation for Gatsby to work hard and to become successful. However, success in life did not give him friendship. All the parties that were told in the book are all false. Those parties do not symbolize his popularity in life, that just represented that people just liked the fact that they were invited to Gatsby’s party. And that soon foreshadows that nobody actually cares about Gatsby. This is represented when Gatsby got shot, and he had a funeral, and nobody came.

The rationale that this song correlates with the song that Fitzgerald included is that even though the genre is not the same, the lyrics have similar meanings. This shows that music can be influential between different generation. And that symbolizes that these two songs have many things in common due to that this song is about the context of Gatsby seeing Daisy again after all these years. And the lyrics “You’re all my eyes can see.”, is what Gatsby is feeling at that moment in time about Daisy.

The funeral was added in to symbolize that people did not have a heart; meaning that people back during the jazz age did not care about the values in life. All that they cared about was money and being materialistic. And her husband, George Wilson, was aggravated by that. And the only way to prevent this from happening again. This shows that George was just trying to prevent the affair from continuing, and this was the only way George knew for sure that they would not be able to see each other again.
