There are 3 states of matter, solid liquid and gass. 
Solids- Solids have a fixed volume and shape. There particals don't move (Only vibrate) This is because they have very little kinetic energy. Because of there little kinetic energy there temperature is cold 
Liquid- Liquids have a fixed volume but not a fixed shape. There particals move slower than gasses particals. This is because they have lesser kinetic energy. then gass but more than solids. 
Gass- Gass has a very high temerature this is because they have a lot of kinetic energy. The particles of matter have spaces b/w them.
The particles of matter are constantly moving, and posses kinetic energy.
