<title>We&#39;ve had some questions arise pertaining to our E-books and digital texts. Our literacy steering team spent some time discussing and sharing ideas about digital texts, and we would like to share a few important points our team discussed for teachers to consider...Always consider instructional purpose and learning goal when thinking about text type and text quality. We want to balance genre and formats - striving to find balance between digital and print text. Quality of texts, print or digital, is important to consider. Epic &amp; MyOn are great for nonfiction text (70 percent non-fiction). Also, please be sure to understand the difference between “audio books,” which do not include the actual words in text and “read to me books,” which speak the words and sentences while highlighting the text. We have to remember that listening (oral) comprehension is typically years ahead of reading comprehension.Let&#39;s also think about about whether students are reading E-books for the sake of earning badges - how can we create authentic celebrations of reading and texts in our classrooms? We know that reading workshop works best when we as teachers know what our students are reading independently. How does the use of ebooks affect our conferring with students? The literacy steering team also read a great article, &quot;Teaching With Interactive Picture E-Books in Grades K-6.&quot; The article also summarizes four key points of using E-Books:1. Consider whether the interactive features in the e-books you use with children distract, support, or extend their understanding of the text.2. Provide strategy instruction that is adapted for e-book reading.3. Analyze e-books for quality, accuracy, and readability before using them for instruction.4. Give students opportunities to practice reading with both traditional and electronic books.</title>
