She was very much in favor of Angelo receiving services  I told her she would be receiving a call from  Sweetzer. I needed to talk with her later in the month about Angelo and she was concerned because no one had called her I connected with Carrie and she said there was a back up at Sweetzer  Of late Carrie emailed me saying Sweetzer has called three times and no one answered I spoke to Angelo before this Thanksgiving break I asked him if his Mom was at home when he got home He said he might be going to his Grams if he gets a note today because his Mom told him in the morning she thought she had broken her leg last night I asked why did she think that He said he didn&#39;t know I asked if he was there with Mom last night and he said I asked again Did you see what happened He said She fell down the stairs and she told him she thought she broke her leg and if she did he would get a note to go to Grams I had him engage in an activity and called Charity to ask if she could try to reach his Mom for two reasons first Carrie said Sweetzer had tried to reach Mom and hadn&#39;t been able to and because Angelo thought his Mom had broken her leg last night If Mom was avoiding answering the phone she might be more inclined to pick up if the call comes from the school I said if she couldn&#39;t reach her I would try after school Charity called about an hour layered and said Sweetzer just reached her a few minutes ago She told me in one of our prior conversations Angelo was suffering and she was as well Angelo is the picture perfect of his dad Dawn Marie Castner Second Grade Teacher Mt.          <title>I will be meeting with my higher group first after Thanksgiving. The group includes: Anna, Tasker, Ameera, and Dakota (I may switch Dakota and Kaylee at some point.) I will start their group as soon as I come in and work until about 10:00. The second group will include: Kaylee, Idella, James, &amp; Mitchell. I will work with them from approximately 10 to 10:30. You can figure out which groups work best at what times. Would it work to do a quick 10-15 minute group with Kaylee, Idella, and James? That way you are sure they are done before I have them.          <title>Here is an example of how I would do it:Activity:   Visit Demonstration Classroom Goal:        Develop action steps toward effective implementation of reading workshop in my classroom.   Reflection after visit to demo classroom:     ( I would list here in bullet form the &quot;take aways&quot; from my observation)Action steps:        (I would list here the actions steps I plan to take that help me reach the above goal and when they will be completed)   Hope this helps...bottom line is that it needs to work for you and help you organize your own thoughts and plan your implementation.  Don&#39;t try to make it too big and do everything at once here.   Remember you have other tools and resources you are looking at and they should build on each other toward developing the workshop.          <title>Dawn,   In response to your questions....here we go.1.  When you set up your peer observation please contact Charity about getting a sub to cover Kristi&#39;s classroom, unless times work out so that Kristi can come in during one of her specials.   The sub will need to be for 1/2 a day.  2.  Reflection notes and action steps should be submitted to me when completed.  This gives me a chance to look over before we meet.  3.  Your data review with Title and Sped should be a collaborative effort initiated by you as necessary to coordinate work to best meet needs of students.  So if kids are struggling, probably time to get together and problem solve.    Title should be progress monitoring (every 2 weeks)  using AIMSWEB for anybody they do Tier II pull-out work with .  SPED should be progress monitoring (every 2 weeks)  using AIIMSWEB for anybody who is SPED identified.   You should be strategic monitoring (every month)  AIMSWEB for anyone below benchmark that is not monitored by Title or SPED.    The F&amp;P progress monitoring kits are used when you feel students might be ready to move on and/or at least once by Dec. and again end of year.    4.  PLease remember reflection notes and action steps from  demo teacher visit have not been received yet as well.  I know we talked about the fact that you did begin using the poetry resource for interactive read alouds.If anything is unclear, please ask. I noted the Section, Lesson Title  book title and author of the two books suggested. This is what we discussed                                                                                                                                                                                   :1.  Observation from demo classroom resulted in you incorporating poetry into your interactive read alouds.  You have found the link between components of the reading workshop helpful for consistency.               2.  Review of DVD &quot;Teaching for comprehension and fluency&quot; has not been  completed.  I gave you my copy of the DVD for review.   Please remember that reflection notes and action steps are to be completed for this step.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             3.  Peer observation and feedback re:  the reading workshop model was done with one peer.  You indicated that you would set up an observation with Kristi C. during December.  Please remember that actions steps as a result of feedback are expected. 4.  Regularly scheduled meetings with SPED and Title one to review data and make adjustments.   You indicated that there have been some meetings.  There was a question about progress monitoring for SPED students and I agreed to talk with SPED teacher to clarify.   Please note that progress monitoring data for title students is every two weeks and for your students below target should be at least monthly.   Please let me know if you have any further questions about the monitoring.I have noted your suggestion about getting books for the bookroom that support reading behavior instruction.  Thanks for sending that to me, in advance.   I will schedule a meeting for us to meet Monday, Dec. 21st at 8:45.          <title>Thank you for getting back to me. I would prefer not to change Stuart&#39;s schedule at all and rather come during the times when observing him would be beneficial. If it&#39;s necessary to come observe 2 times to see him in different situations that is fine with me. So I would like to come and observe Stuart at 9:30 and if I feel I need to see him again to have an idea of how I can help him better at school, then we could discuss that then. I would like to come visit on Monday (11/23/15) at 9:30 am. I think I process slower.....and I&#39;m probably missing......or forgetting some key consideration..  I feel the need to share my thoughts and please let me know yours, if possible,(but not necessary),in writing because,selfishly,I can reread and think.  I think there are several problems that are opportunities for solutions.  I really hope you understand, and are not taking offense. I apologize ahead of time if I am in anyway being too direct or slighting you. That is not my intent. Likewise to Kim.My hope is to better maximize learning opportunities for all students.     To begin with,it seems we were really enthusiastic about using the first grade&#39;s model 4 Dose Rotation. It was the first time you or I had tried something like this. For several reasons it is not working out.      As you mentioned it is challenging to complete your groups activity in 13 minutes with two minutes transition time.     I have difficulty, as I shared with you yesterday, when  Kim&#39;s group arrives back on the half hour, our groups are still together. I have to leave the group I&#39;m working with to redirect the incoming group to the activities discussed in the early morning, 8:05 -8:30. Then go back to the group I left, continue on for a few minutes before we transition again.     That&#39;s if I start reading groups when you arrive, which is closer to 9:40. When I start reading workshop at exactly 9:30 and have the 1st dose group you see read silently until you arrive, keeping to the 13-15 minute rotation so the groups are changing when Kim&#39;s group comes back your first group has only 6 to 8 minutes. If we do it the other way your last group has only 6-8 minutes because you have to leave.The New Plan     If I understand your thoughts regarding the new plan, the two groups you are responsible for will see you for  20 minutes followed by 10 minutes with me, where I am to just go over what they had read, (maybe ask deeper questions) or a have them do a little word work. I am only including the interface between the groups you see in my class.      Angelo would no longer go to Kim as of the 13th.  Kim has agreed to see Nate, Kesley and Stuart together for a half hour during this time. The other group of I and J&#39;s I would see.     Angelo would join Stuart, Nate and Kelsy in a group with me. So 20 minutes total with both of your groups  10 and 10, 20 minutes with I,J group, and 20 minutes with Nate,Kelsey,Stuart.     Since Nate, Kelsy, Stuart will be gone exactly a half hour, that will be 10 minutes of independent work for them and 40 minutes of independent work for the I,J group. When I asked you yesterday about how Angelo tested, I believe, and correct me if I&#39;m wrong, Angelo, tested at D for independent, and D in Placement in September. This week he tested beyond D but Challenged in E. (and he will be in a group of two, or three who were on what level in September and tested at what level now ? We didn&#39;t talk about that...I did want to know to see if there is a possible alternative.)We have time challenges when we meet on 13th so ...... and I need.. time to think things through.Opportunities to Solve...   Opportunity #1 Needing a Solution for both your groups 20 minutes Advantage Angela a quality teaching experience for students due to  familiarity, assess and use of Blue Teachers Edition for LLI Disadvantage Dawn 10 minutes  unfamiliarity, restriction of, as well as, use of, Blue Teachers Edition for LLI.  Lack of planning time(Angela and I) and/or opportunity to discuss the groups 20 minute prior experience   Opportunity #2 Needing a Solution  Angelo  30 minutes Angela from 11:30 -12:00  a quality teaching experience for Angelo in a quiet setting with one or two other students outside of the regular classroom    20 minutes Dawnworking in a group of students from Mrs. Makarowski&#39;s class, yet, not a participant of the group. The activities will not relate to Mrs. Makarowkski&#39;s, rather, relate to the needs of those students based on data accumulated Opportunity #3 Needing a Solution I and J Groups  40 minutes is too long for these students to function independentlyPossible SolutionsIntegrating the Frameworks for Language Word Study Workshop, Writing Workshop, and Reading Workshop to the Guided Reading Independent Work times as applicable. This would serve the needs of the students, within their indicated areas of need.    The time frames of the 3 framework workshops are 60, 60, 45 which is a challenge to reach and integrate.I propose, considering you have been taking the push in groups for Mrs. Thomas and Mrs. Toothaker out of their respective rooms, you do the same for these 2 groups as a solution to the existing dilemma.     You take the push in groups out, for a half hour each. 9:30 to 10:00 and 10:00 to 10:30. The groups come down to you, rather than your fetching them.     This affords time for you to gather materials in your room and be ready for them.     It provides an opportunity for the students to accept and demonstrate responsible behaviors with resulting natural consequences positive or negative.    If your room is unavailable, the book room or the library might be open spaces.    Within the classroom during the alternate half hour the students can work on work you provide related to your work with them, or possibly, work on the Frameworks for Language Word Study Workshop, Writing Workshop, and Reading Workshop needs as indicated by the data we have accumulated.    I think I have included all the thoughts that have been swirling since our conversation regarding proposed changes from 4 Dose 1st grade model. A key is provided on these documents as each scope has been color-coded.Along with the alignments we have also developed individual proficiency checklists that can be used to determine proficiency for each learning target.  We have removed the grade level at the top of the checklist and replaced it with the proper Scope Level. Samples are attached.
