Hi! My name is Mia and I'm a third-year BFA Dance major. I'm from New York and grew up doing competitive dance in all styles! I would say that my some of my favorite genres of dance include jazz, contemporary, and modern. I'm really into Broadway and enjoy commercial dance. I've been in a handful of Theatre and Dance productions since coming here and I'm excited to be choreographing for Evolution!

About Me 2!

My name is Evan and I'm a fifth-year BFA dance major. Growing up in dance I've always been attracted to very dynamic styles of movement. From Broadway to ballet, I would consider myself to be a very athletic dancer and likes to attack the music with my movement. Since being at UT I have loved discovering ways to have dynamics in all dance genres.

Curiosity!

I'm interesting in exploring virtuosic dancing within this project and I'm excited to experience what it's like to produce a piece in every aspect beyond the studio. It's going to be fun working with composers, lighting design, costuming, and all the other things that come with a performance aside from dancing in it. Working with our dancers in the studio will be amazing, but learning more about the essentials that really bring a work to life is something I've never had this much creative autonomy over. I think it'll be cool to see the final product when everything comes together! I'd like to challenge myself to produce something that's truly a collaborative work between my partner and I. I want to do our ideas justice and work so that everyone's vision is able to reach its fullest potential.

Throughout this creation process, I really want to test my musicality and push it to the limits by really allowing the music to affect the work that I create. Since I began in this program, I have learned a lot about how to the music can enhance existing movement without necessarily affecting it. Now that I have the chance to do the opposite, I want to have choreography that enhances the music and really allow the music to affect the movement in a more direct way.

Music Taste!

We're interested in working with a piece of music that has a lot of accented dynamics and a strong bass. Something with a driving beat and a minimalistic melody in the background is an idea that we have in mind. Rhythm is something we both value and would love to choreograph to something that's a balance between dissonant and classical with levels, beat drops, and exciting undertones. A song that pushes forward, drives the dancers, and has different sections of a variety of music would be great! It doesn't necessarily need to stay consistent throughout, as long as it's dynamic and inspires choreography. Five words we came up with to describe our ideal piece of music would be rhythmic, layered, spooky, percussive, and climactic.
