Twas a Friday night, I was wearing my navy YIM T-shirt while carrying my luggage and all of my carry on bags, i gathered to my YIM group which was Ambon 1. And so I met all of my friends as well. As everybody was all there at the airport, we head in to put our luggage’s airplanes baggage. After all of that was done, we headed into the waiting room at the airport to wait for our flight. Our flight time was late at midnight, so it was quite a long wait as we have arrived in the waiting room since it was just midnight. As time passes our flight was announced, and so we had line up to board the plane. Because it was late at night, all I did on the plane was just sleep and breathe. I did woke up once due to my uncomfortable sleeping posture, but after that I just corrected my sleeping posture and all was good and i was sleeping like a baby. After all that sleep, I was woken up by the shakes of the airplane as the plane was landing and by that, we were already in Ambon! As soon we got out of the airport, we head to our hotel to drop off our bags. And the next was eating breakfast, as we arrived at Ambon in the morning, we were starving. So we ate some soto Makassar, and it was divine! The thickness of the broth, the taste of all the spices, and we were also told to add a little bit of lime, which made the dish taste to the next level. They served the soto with rice, and there was no vegetables in the soto, the soto was filled with tender meat so, all I saw and ate was meat. After all of our stomachs were filled, we went to a big supermarket – kind of like Costo to shop for our donations for the orphanage. As we arrived there, we were divided into teams and we were shopping for a lot of things like household goods, instant foods, and some bathing necessities. As we finished our shopping spree, we went back to our hotel to get into our rooms and rest a bit before heading to eat dinner. Bodies were feeling refreshed after a bit of rest, we were already heading out for dinner. We ate dinner at the middle of the sea, it was a first time for me to eat on a floating restaurant in the sea. It was such a fun experience to share with friends. The sunset reflecting to the waters, we have finished our dinner, and we head back to the ship and to our bus so we can rest and sleep to our hotel. And so the night fell and I cleaned myself after arriving to our hotel room and slept.

The sun has rose and our bodies were aching, it was our first day of doing our service in Ambon. So I hurriedly take a shower and got dressed in batik, our first day of service was in a church. We were there to present a song, which was Goodness of God also teaching a session for the kids. And so we hop on the bus, not after a while, we have arrived to the church which was Gereja Kristen Kalam Kudus Ambon. I was tasked to greet people when they’re entering the church, so I greet them a good morning with a smile. as the time of the church session was approaching, me and my friends went inside to also join the church session. And as church was ending, we sang the song we have prepared. Which was quite an embarrassing story to tell. What happened was that our voices weren’t too big enough, and we missed the opening line which was a fatal mistake. When we were done singing, the worship leader said, “UPH College students are still shy” a meaning we didn’t satisfy their expectation. After the church ended, the next thing that we needed to do was teaching the children. As we were disappointing in our recent performance, we promised to do better in our service on teaching and singing the worship song. So, we moved on to preparing the activities for the kids, practicing the songs, gathering all the stuffs needed to do the activities with them. After the worship song was done being performed, we moved on separating the kids to their own classes of their age. And I was tasked to teach the fifth and sixth grader to share what’s love and writing what you love on an origami paper heart. Done with making paper heart, our session was also done. As we finished in the afternoon, we need to grab a bite before doing our next service. Our lunch menu was, papeda! It was my first time to try papeda. it was divine, but I couldn’t ate much of it. They were a lots of other delicious menus as well like morning glory sauteed with garlic, fried shrimp, and much more. And so, we ate our hearts out. Felt full after a nice lunch, we were back on the road to head to our next service place. Our next service was on a “rumah singgah” for the kids that are on the side of the roads. But it turns out that the rumah singgah was no longer there and moved to another place. So we played with the kids that are on the block, which turns out to be the best and such fun service! There was a roadside stall that sells a lot of snacks and toys like fireworks that pop when they hit the ground. We bought a football as well to play with the kids there. And it was approaching night time as we played and laughed together, so we said our goodbyes and head to dinner. As we munch and munch our dinner, the food was slowly gone in our plates. And so we head back to our hotel. And that was the end of our first service in Ambon.

The morning of our second service in Ambon, we ate breakfast at the hotel, hop into our bus to get to our next service place which was an orphanage. As soon as we arrived there we were greeted by the beach and a beautiful bridge, it was such a nice view to look at the morning. The orphanage was located quite far from where we parked the bus, so we walked there and had eventually arrived. We greet them with a worship songs and we all sang together. Even though we held the service in the middle of the road, I bet we made a lot of precious and memorable moment for them. I was tasked to cut the fruits to make an es buah for them. So I just stayed inside and cut lots of fruits for the es buah. Time have passed, and we finished our service in the orphanage. Before doing our next service, we went to a beach called Namalatu. It was a very beautiful beach with clear blue waters and white sand. Saly our time there was not much, as we have to move on our next service of the day. Our next service was in another orphanage, and I still was tasked to cut the fruits for another es buah, so I didn’t get to really interact and play with them. Though, when we first arrived we dance to a very popular song in Ambon, which was called, “Ikan Nae di Pante” everyone knows this song, and there’s a dance to this song, so we learned the choreography with them. The sun was setting and we said our goodbyes, we head to our bus and went to see an iconic monument of Ambon which was called, “gong perdamaian Ambon” we also went to “Taman Pattimura” to look around. The next thing to do was fill our stomachs, but we were still too full form the lunch, so we just had a little snack like Roti bakar and pisang goreng. And that was it for our second day of service at Ambon.

Our third day of service in Ambon, we went to a school called, “Kalam Kudus”. We were there to teach MBTI, marketing and awareness. Before we did all of the teaching, we did the “senam poco poco “ and “gemufamire” like we did in our house competition during the independence day. The students spotted not moving a single inch was pulled up to the front with us to lead the moves together. As someone was pulled up to the front, students started cheering and laughing together, in poor or maybe it was more an excitement to tease them after. After we did the move for 4 times and we were drenched in sweat, we moved to our classes to teach about MBTI. Before the class starts, we did a lot of conversation and we introduced ourselves to each other. As the session was going on, we gave a lot of QnA and question that if a student can guess it right, we gave them sweets and pens. We finished our session early and we began to talk more and even make a tiktok challenge together! And we said our goodbyes and hop in to our bus to visit a museum called Siwalima. The museum was full of many traditional wedding clothes and also we visited an ocean museum which holds a real whale fossil. With the scorching hot sun hitting our skins, I ran to the bus to get some place to hide from the sun and we head to our next place to do our service, which was another orphanage. There, we sang our worship songs, painted keychains and played with board games. We also learned another version of the choreography for “Ikan Nae di Pantai”. It was very fun to get to dance with them. I was too tired that day, as soon we got to the restaurant for dinner, I was already sleeping at the table laying my head on it while waiting the food to came. When the food had already came, I was chewing my food with both of my eyes closed due to sleepiness. And so we hurriedly head back to our hotel. After a tiring day, our third day of service in Ambon has finished.

Feeling energized for our fourth day if service in Ambon. We started the service by exercising with kindergarten and elementary students. As our body was already warmed up, we head onto each of our class. And I was in charge of teaching the kindergarten students to plant some plants. Teaching them was unexpectedly easy and nothing bizarre really did happen than a kid throwing a tantrum which was expected. We were also asked for our autographs there, I felt like an idol that time. And as our service time there was short, we head to Sekolah Kalam Kudus again to teach them about awareness and marketing. As we already knew each other, I was even more chattier than the other day. But I have to switch class in the middle of the day to another class. But the students there was fun as well, and we made keychains out of pipe cleaners. We also traded them for memories to hold. And all of a sudden, the students were called down, we were very confused, but they were called to say goodbye to us, which was really sweet. As we ended our service quite early, we went to a fish hatchery which I dropped my phone in a angelfish aquarium as I was startled by the fish’s biting my hand 😭 No worries my phone survived. And we spend the rest of our day in Natsepa beach, we swam there and eventually spending the afternoon there while staring at the sunsets, eating instant cup noodles, Rujak, was another core memory unlocked. After all of the swimming and eating was done, we went to eat dinner after a long day of fun activities. Full of fun activities, the day of our fourth day of service in Ambon comes to an end.

The 5th day in Ambon, it was the time we had a one day trip. Our first destination was called, “lubang buaya morrella”. It was a spot for you to snorkel and so we did! Don’t worry, it’s just the name of the place, it doesn’t really have crocodiles on the spot. We jumped off the board to the waters, floating around with floaties, and I also dived to see the fishes closer. After all of the snorkeling was done, we head to our next destination which was Liang Beach. There the waters was also clear and blue. The sand was also white. As I haven’t took my swimming suit off, I jumped back to the ocean. The waves there was really big, and the water then was really high, so I don’t dare to go far from the beach. After an exhausting day of swimming, we head back to out hotel to take a rest and clean ourselves. After all was done, we head to our last dinner at Ambon. Plates were began emptied, and we had finished all of our dinner. We took a lot of photos as it was our last night in Ambon before heading back to Tangerang. Had a feeling that we will missed our YIM, we came back to the hotel just to eat the pizza my mom had ordered and we played uno for a bit. Feeling exhausted, we each head back to our room to sleep. And just like that, we have finished our one day trip at Ambon.
