Rachel Louise Carson had loved to write, even submitting her first piece of official writing to the Saint Nicholas at the mere age of 10. When enrolling in college, she immediately wanted to be an English major, and continued writing poems to send off to other places.

However, after learning that she was required to take a biology course there, she remembered her love for science.

After graduating from college, Rachel went on to John Hopkins' University, and declared a zoology major, and began teaching zoology in the University of Maryland.

However, as she heard the news that her father had passed away in 1935, she immediately stopped teaching, abandoned all her studies, went home and ceased all hope of ever achieving a doctoral degree.

Soon after this incident, she was hired by the US Fish and Wildlife Service (previously known as the Bureau of Fisheries), and suddenly became intrigued by the sea .

A year later, her sister had sadly died. Since money was now quite tight in the family, she began writing zoology poems for the Baltimore Sun to earn some extra cash.

Rachel then published two books, which made her wealthy enough to retire from the Bureau in 1962.

She then was alerted that the government was abusing poisonous chemicals to remove bugs from food. She then submitted an article, but it was rejected by the Reader's Digest.

The chemical industries, however, saw her as a money-losing problem, and threatened to sue her.

She then published her third book, Silent Spring. which was extremely controversial among the public. However, while writing Silent Spring, her niece and mother had sadly died.

Shortly after, Rachel was diagnosed with breast cancer, and died on the 14th of April, 1964 at the age of 56.

In the end, her resilience payed off as the public finally believed her.
