Yes, I believe so. America definitely has this issue. Many policies and laws nowadays are STILL discriminatory towards African Americans (lack of social security, lack of healthcare, more economically vulnerable, voting difficulties). Also, There are hundreds of cases of racist police violence all over America. It’s much harder for black Americans to get jobs and become successful.

it is claimed that Blacks have less of an advantage because of the slavery that happened a long time ago. I personally believe that this isn't true because after slavery ended as well as the jim crow laws and other segregation/ discriminatory things, they were able to get a fresh start. For me, I know that my mother came to America as an immigrant and had absolutely nothing. As a minority, I believe that there is nothing holding them back. And because of affirmative action, it was much harder for my mother to actually get a place in a university because of the competitive environment surrounding her. If my mother can go from nothing to something, then what is stopping blacks from doing the same?

People that are actually discriminated against and have a worse chance of getting into college (or whatever). I think this question of affirmative action doesn't just apply to college applications. Affirmative action in general is beneficial for groups that are discriminated against. You are against affirmative action because it lowers your chances of getting into college, without realizing the other things affirmative action does.

I disagree with Alison. Do you not think there is lingering racism and discrimination towards black people from white people? I think you're using your one example of how affirmative action wasn't fair and applying it to multiple scenarios. Americans can often hold views of people that aren't their color, and that prevents some people from getting jobs that are owned by certain people (people that don't like a certain race for example). Affirmative action can help to solve this problem.

I agree with you that hard work could lead to a higher status socioeconomically, but it is because of race that they are not able to climb up that ladder. If there weren’t any discrimination, wouldn’t everyone have an equal start at the beginning? If everyone treated each other with respect, then affirmative action programs would not be needed. But because discrimination and racism already exists, there are factors that minority groups can’t control which affects their status in real life. And while not all minorities need the help of affirmative action programs, they are still there as an insurance for equal opportunities.

affirmative action already DOES apply to asians, only negatively. The affirmative action in colleges put us against our own race. I think that is not fair and they should put everybody against each other, or if they want to be more fair, everybody in the same income bracket against each other. people with higher income tend to have more educational resources, which is why it is harder for asians to get into college because they have the money and the tiger parenting culture to always focus on the studies. Although my family is more american cultured, I have to be compared to these others purely because of my race.

His secretary states that we should not assume an organization is rotten just because an individual is. Although the organization itself may not be rotten, Trump is underestimating the discrimination that occurs in America. There is far more than a "few bad apples". With racist people the organization will become racist as well. America has a racist system that discriminate the minorities. If the minorities feel secure with the system and has a sense of equality, protest would not occur. The US assume that inequality ended with the slavery and civl war. But the trauma still remains and some system still fail to have equality. These include education, health care, and economy.
