  • The men who founded it was Brother roger, otherwise known as Roger Schutz

  • He was a Swiss Christian leader and monastic brother

  • he founded the community in 1940 in Burgundy, France

  • He made it his first service and priority to take care of the organisation until he was murdered in 2005

  • It was thought that he created the community in order to ponder what it really means to live a life according to scriptures and to begin a quest for a different expression of the Christian life

  • Taizé: meaning a style of Christina worship by the ecumenical Taizé community in France, characterized by the repetitive singing of simple harmonized tunes, often in various languages, interspersed with readings, prayers, and periods of silence.

A Taizé worship service involves snug and chanted prayers, meditation, a period of silence, liturgical readings and icons. There is no preaching.

     

    The purpose of the prayer is to foster reconciliation and peace among all people. Taizé is an evening prayer for all Christian faiths, and is 'calling us to dwell deeply on Christs presence around and within us'.
