You are expected to complete a set amount of Off-the-Job hours. These hours need to be recorded in detail in your Learning Log which forms a key part of your Learner Scorecard.

You may also see Off-the-Job Training written as the abbreviation OTJ.

You can easily fill these in each day as and when your learning occurs.

Above is an example of a blank Learning Log.

It is a minimum requirement to have at least one OTJ entry each calendar month of your apprenticeship.

However, one entry each month would not give you enough OTJ hours and you would fall behind.

Failure to record an entry each month could lead to you being placed on a Break in Learning.

You will be able to find out the exact number on your your Learner Scorecard or by speaking to your Trainer Assessor.

A very rough guide to the weekly number of hours would be approx. 6 hours per week of OTJ activity recorded on your OTJ log.

Using 6 hours per week, this would equate to approx. 24 hours per month or approx. 288 hours per year.

Target - Find out how many OTJ hours are needed for your apprenticeship.

It will also tell you how many hours you need to have logged up to the current day and whether you are on target (Green) or behind (Red).

It is advisable to keep your OTJ hours up to date and on target, as it can be difficult to catch up if you have fallen behind.
