One positive learning experience I had was working on a collaborative project in a class where the instructions were very clear and broken down into manageable steps. We were given examples of strong work, a rubric that explained exactly how we would be graded, and time in class to ask questions. I felt confident and motivated because I always knew what I was supposed to do next, which reduced stress and confusion.

What made this experience positive was the thoughtful design of the assignment. The combination of clear expectations, opportunities for feedback, and collaboration made the work feel achievable rather than overwhelming. While the project itself was challenging, it felt like a “good” kind of hard because I had the tools and support needed to succeed.

Stephano

One negative learning experience I had was in a course where most of the learning was based on long lectures and high-stakes exams with little guidance. Instructions for assignments were vague, and feedback was minimal or came too late to be useful. I often felt frustrated and anxious because I wasn’t sure if I was understanding the material correctly.

This experience was negative mainly because of the lack of structure and support. The content itself was difficult, but what made it harder was not knowing how to study effectively or what the instructor expected. Instead of feeling challenged in a productive way, I felt discouraged and disengaged from the learning process.

Stephano

A negative experience is when I was debugging a computer program. I search up the error code which showed up many ways to fix the error. I tried each solution that came up on the web. None of them worked. I even reinstalled the computer program but it still didn't work. Finally, I realize that the error code wasn't accurately describing the problem. It was something different that was wrong. The error code was misleading causing me to lose lots of time on unrelated solutions. ⏳+🚫=⌛ I eventually fixed it. alan meng

One positive learning experience I've had was being in school and randomly having a pop quiz in class. The teacher had brought prizes to win and it was like a competition to see who would get the answers correct. I was happy because I won a prize, but the winners couldn't go again unless they just wanted to give out the correct answer. The positive thing was getting a reward for getting the answer correct, while also preparing for the upcoming test. The thing that made it easier was studying for the test and being prepared.

JaCarrion G

One positive learning experience I've had was training for my current job. The experience was positive because everything was broken down into clear, manageable steps. Since most of my tasks are completed web-based, it was important to understand the different systems, protocols, and digital tools required to complete tasks accurately. My supervisor took the time to explain each task, demonstrate how to complete it, and then allowed me to do it on my own. This hands-on approach helped to reinforce what I was learning and build my own confidence as I progressed.

Feeling supported throughout the training process made it easier to stay motivated and engaged. Being able to ask clarifying questions without feeling rushed made a big difference, especially since technology systems are sometimes hard to adapt to. Overall, it was positive because it combined patience, practice and clear instruction.

- Arick Robinson

One negative learning experience I've had was attempting to build my own PC for the first time with the help of someone who had experience doing so. I felt overwhelmed because the person rushed me and acted as if I should already know what to do. Since building a computer requires precision, I wanted to make sure everything was done correctly. Being that computer parts are expensive; I was also worried about damaging the components which made the experience stressful. The lack of patience and guidance made the process more difficult that it needed to be. In the end, the PC was not assembled properly, which made the experience frustrating. Having patience and instruction when working with others is important, especially when learning something new.

- Arick Robinson

One positive learning experience I had was taking trigonometry at state. During my high school years, I did not enjoy math at all. I did pass my math courses, but I normally had a B and strongly disliked doing any homework or math. While at state I learned that the professor you have can make a learning experience or break. My professor last semester broke down all the steps in detail and did not skip anything. Unlike many of my other professors who assume a student knows every detail about the problem. She truly cared about her students and her job.

Most of my math teachers have had limited hours and resources in the past. However, her canvas was organized perfectly and simply to access tutoring resources, and her office hours were extensive. If you had to meet and you couldn't make her office hours, you could email her and she would meet with you. I felt while the class was still required work it made the class much easier that I had such a great professor.

Matthew Campbell

One of my worst learning experiences was learning how to work at my second job. I needed a job to help pay for expenses as many people do in college. I had previously worked at a chick-fil-a and had experience in customer service, so I thought the job would be easy. I learned very quickly that I was hired so swiftly for a reason. The learning experience was terrible because they had no trainers and the system used to ring up individuals was terrible. I had been used to a very organized work environment with a great user interface to ring up guests.

Furthermore, I ended up quitting the job was terrible and the place ended up getting shutdown anyway. While it was a tough learning experience, it taught me patience and perseverance. When someone is new to working or has fewer previous jobs on resume it can be scary to quit it gave me the confidence I needed to search for a new job.

Matthew Campbell

I found this class to be very helpful in a few different ways which is why I did so well in it. For one, my professor made sure to include a lot of visuals and presentations which were really helpful. I really enjoyed that all of her powerpoints were loaded with information we needed for quizzes, or tests, because it made studying a whole lot easier. It was so much more relieving to have all the information we needed in one spot, rather than having to look all over the place for it.

- Angelina Istiphan

This class was in an already very difficult subject for me (math), and I found the professors teaching method, and resources, or lack of resources, to add a lot to my stress. For one, it was extremely difficult to get in contact with the professor because they rarely checked their emails. Additionally, it was very unclear what information we needed to know for quizzes and tests. To make matters worse, there wasn't any of the information we needed to know posted online, and it was very difficult to gather all the information we needed during class because they moved too quickly. Overall, it was not a good experience for me.

-Angelina Istiphan

Positive learning experience:

I am currently taking Organized Communications, and in this class we are focussing on two things that are very important to practice to me. The first one is setting a goal outside of school. I choose to be active everyday even if it is just going on a walk. The second goal, is picking something to make me a better student. I choose to set aside a day that allows me to be prepared for my tests, so I am not cramming the week before. For example the moment I get my notes I will start making my quizlet. This allows me to be more prepared for my test, then cramming the week before. This assignment is something I will be doing all semester to hold me accountable. I think this something that is very important for everyone to practice, and it can benefit everyone even with just setting little goals. - Ava Nipper

Positive Learning Experience:

One of my most positive learning experiences was when I successfully completed a challenging coding project. The task involved creating a program that automated data processing, which initially felt overwhelming due to its complexity. However, as I broke down the problem into smaller parts and steadily worked through each piece, I started gaining confidence. The process of debugging and seeing the program finally run smoothly gave me a strong sense of accomplishment and motivation. What made this experience positive was not only mastering a difficult skill but also realizing that persistence and structured problem-solving can lead to success. Though it was hard at times, the feeling of progress made it enjoyable and rewarding.

One negative learning experience I've had was just last year, I had a marketing class that I was really struggling in due to how the exams were set up. We were given chapters in the textbook to read over, and the professor added specific things from those chapters that you would only remember if you read them over multiple times. This made it hard for me to memorize or study the material, as I can have problems normally when doing so if I'm not given specific things to focus on, rather than four or five whole chapters at once. Even then, with the week or two we were given to study, it was still hard to get it all in my head. Because of this, I wasn't doing as well on the exams as I had hoped to be doing. I felt hopeless, and it was one of the hardest classes I've had to take while in college. - Emma Peck

My professor was also a great help to making the process easier and a fun learning environment.

                 ~ Aryelle Saine

One positive learning experience I had was when I was assigned to a group project and everyone had fully done their role. Through a very small amount of communication, we had discussed all the plans and made our roles very clear. Working alongside a group that I could actually trust made it a much smoother experience. I was also able to fully focus on learning and my contribution rather than worrying about if the work was getting completed. - madalyn fairley

A positive learning experience I had was in web design last semester. I enjoyed this class so much. My professor was very responsive and engaging, which made it easy to stay motivated and ask questions without feeling like I should already "know the material" . His lectures and handouts were always clear, and expectations were explained well, so I rarely felt confused. Even when the assignments were difficult, he was extremely thorough when he graded; letting you know where and how to improve. I felt supported and confident knowing help was readily available. I will never forget how patient he was the entire class and how much he genuinely wanted us all to grasped to material. -LaToya Burdette

A negative learning experience I had was in a data modeling class. The professor was very critical and provided little guidance, which made the course frustrating. He gave this weird energy, so it uncomfortable going to him when I was stuck on something - because he came off as if you were bothering him by not knowing or understanding the material. It often felt like I was teaching myself and relying on online resources to understand the material. It was a summer course, so it moved quicker than a regular semester; the lack of support and constructive feedback made the class feel discouraging instead of helpful. I felt like I didn't learn anything and had to retake the class in the fall to grasp the material properly.-LaToya Burdette

One of my most positive learning experiences was during a hands-on art class in high school. We were learning how to use watercolors to create landscapes. I felt really engaged because I could see my progress as I practiced layering colors and creating textures. What made it positive was that the teacher gave me immediate feedback and encouragement, which helped me improve and feel confident in my work. Although some techniques were tricky at first, the supportive environment make it easier to overcome challenges and enjoy the process. -Victoria McClendon

A negative learning experience I had was in a college math class where the lectures were very fast-paced, and there were few opportunities to ask questions. I often felt confused and anxious, which made learning the material stressful. What made it negative was that the class lacked interactive activities or support, so I struggled to keep up. The assignments felt more frustrating than educational, and I didn't feel like I was truly understanding the concepts. -Victoria McClendon
