Assertion:
ISB Middle School should have a period of recess like Elementary School
(1) Reason 1/Evidence:
•Reason: Recess helps students cognitively
•Evidence: According to the American Academy of Paediatrics, recess helps a child with social skills and emotional learning that normal classes cannot provide. They also improve communication, which can be extremely helpful to socially awkward people like myself.

(2) Reason 2/Evidence:
•Reason: Kids will do better in class and tests
•Evidence: According to Scholastic, kids will act less fidgety, has a more focused memory, and develop more brain connections. The website Romper also says that "The science is clear; kids need to play in order to learn."
•Evidence: According to the TIME MAGAZINE, researchers in the Netherlands found out that the more kids moved and jumped around, the higher the GPA, especially in English, reading, and math.
(3) Reason 3/Evidence:
•Reason: You can't do anything in ten minutes
•Evidence: Many classes, like Humanities for example, expect to you to be five minutes early. Some other classes, like Math or PE, lets you out five minutes late. Also, your enrichments and specialty classes take you around the school, so it sometimes take even up to three minutes to navigate, even more if there is foot traffic. The break is basically useless. If they were, perhaps, to stretch the break, then students would actually have time to do something they actually want.

Assertion:
Zoos Should Be Banned
Reason: Animals die more in zoos than in the wild.
Evidence 1: In February 2004, a crane died of a rupture of its liver when it was only two years old. The cage was specially treated to protect against bird flu, and the bird was shocked by the noise that resulted when it hit the iron bars.
Evidence 2:

Between 2014 and 2016, 109 animals died at the zoo in the Irish capital, including a significant number of critically endangered species that are extinct or nearly extinct in the wild

Evidence 3:

The tank for rays in a aquarium in Chicago killed a whole population of sting rays (54) due to lack of oxygen in the tank.
Reason 2: Animals that live in zoos are stressed
Evidence 1:
Brookfield's clouded leopard collection is part of a national study started in 1999 involving 12 zoos and 74 large cats. Difficult to manage in captivity, clouded leopards are often seen pulling out their fur, pacing excessively, hiding for long periods, and acting aggressively toward exhibit mates.

Evidence 2: African elephants also fared worse, living for 16.9 years in captivity and 35.9 years in the wild. When the scientists discounted African elephants killed by people in the national park, the typical lifespan reached 56 years, more than three times as long as those kept in zoos.
Evidence 3:

In The Time Magazine it had said "Some animals such as elephants travel up to 30 miles a day." But in zoos they can't exercise which makes them feel stressed.
Reason 3: We don't learn anything in zoos.
Evidence 1: A CAPS study of UK aquariums found that 41% of the animals on display had no signs identifying their species – the most basic of information.
Evidence 2:
fewer than 10 percent of people who go to the zoo come out with a greater awareness of biodiversity than they had when they went in, but only about 4.5 percent leave saying they can support biodiversity by supporting zoos — and that represents an increase of about 1 percent. People clearly do not view keeping animals in cages for public display as defending biodiversity. They look to environmental groups to do that.
Evidence 3: CAPS (Captive Animals' Protection Society) Director, Liz Tyson:

“It is hardly surprising to learn that most children visiting zoos are neither empowered nor educated by the experience of seeing captive wild animals so far removed from their natural habitat. Zoos present an entirely false view of both the animals themselves, and of the real and very urgent issues facing many species in their natural homes. This new research appears to confirm what we have said for many years. Zoos do not educate nor do they empower or inspire children to become conservationists”.

His mother died and his father left him when he was only 12. He worked to become a hero, to be someone worth that title. He studied, and worked, to go to Kings Collage in New York, now known as_______. And when he got the chance, he left to America at the age of 17. He got scholarship and graduated from King Collage, and then wanted to do something else, to keep rising. He still strived to be a hero, and he looked up to Enron Burr, someone much like him who wanted the same thing as Hamilton, to be a hero. So Hamilton followed in his footsteps and created a party to rebel against the British, and then met with Washington who made him his right hand man. They fought and won the war and when Washington became president, being Washington’s friend, he went in a government position, as the secretary of state, to the first treasury president, and did great things. He went from a homeless orphan child, to a wonderful historical figure. Then later, he got in a fight, with Eron Burr, and was challenged to a duel of guns. Instead of shooting his opponent, he shot up to show that he couldn’t shoot that man, who used to be his friend. To show loyalty. He is a hero.

Resoning:
People look at real life hero’s as inspiration, and hope, and he inspired us to become like him. Everyone has a hero, and it is because they helped them realize that they could be something more. Hamilton is a great example for this. He keept seeking to do something extra, something better.

Assertion:
There should be more funny cat/dog videos on Youtube.

Reason 1/Evidence
To begin with, funny cat/dog videos belong on Youtube because people love cats/dogs - their cuteness, their movements, traits, behaviors - so it's logical for people to enjoy watching videos of them on this website. And if a website like Youtube was created for people to communicate, to share videos of common interests, as well for people's general enjoyment, it only makes sense for funny cat/dog videos to be uploaded onto Youtube.
Reason 2/Evidence
Secondly, funny cat/dog videos benefit people. Yes, in this stressful, fast-paced, high-pressure society we live in, with high taxes and an even higher cost of living, it's imperative that hard-working people find outlets for their stress; something better than achohol and drugs is humor. The physical act of laughing sends natural occuring endorphins and other happy-feeling neurotransmitters rushing through a person's brain, in turn lessening stress and leaving the person happier, healthier, and more relaxed. For example, when a person sees a video of a cat or dog demanding their owner's attention almost to the point of being aggressive, but in a comical way, they tend to lighten up. Watching a video of a cat or dog doing strange things, like jumping three feet high in the air at the sight of a cucumber on the ground behind them, is just therapeutic. When it comes down to it, when one considers the benefit of watching silly cat/dog videos, there should be no doubt whatsoever that they belong on Youtube.
Reason 3/Evidence

Assertion:

Old Disney princess and hero animations should not be shown to children under 7.
Reason 1/evidence:
It leaves a stereotype to kids.
In Disney princess and hero animations, it shows pretty, slim princesses, and the man heroes are handsome and muscular. Also, most of their skin color is white. It shows kids that women should be pretty and slim and man should be handsome and muscular, which is a strong gender stereotype. For example, in Cinderella, Snow white, the sleeping beauty etc, they are all white pretty and slim.
Reason 2/evidence:
The villains die inappropiately for the kids to see.
In Disney's hero and princess animations, there are always villains and they all die. Why should they die all the time? This is inappropiate for the kids to see the villains die, instead, Disney can make the villains retreat or disappear. Plus, the villains even die violently. For example, if you watched Snow White, then you can see the witch dying by crushed under a boulder and fall off about a hundred meter cliff.
Reason 3/evidence:

Assertion: Kids should not get payed for good grades. People should be interested in this because it can affect the kid's future and can determine if the kid is successful or not.
Reason 1: Where will the money come from? The school? The parents? They will become broke if they have many good students. Kids are at school to learn and have a better future, not to work.
Reason 2: Grades are depended on the teacher. That means that the teachers will determine if the kid gets money or not. In my opinion this is not good because some teachers like some kids more than others, which can affect the kids grade. If people do get payed for good grades, teachers may be able to determine their lives.
Reason 3: Grades are used for showing progress, not something that you should always focus on at school. If people put their minds to grades too much, they will not focus on the thing they are doing, instead they will just focus on impressing the teacher and trying to please them.

Ryan S

Assertion: Abortion should be banned

Reason 1/ Evidence
The reason Abortion should be band, is the that, when a fetus is in the womb, despite not being "born" it is a living being. Why should aborting a Fetus be any different from killing a child. The Idea is the same, Abortion is killing a living being, and making him and/or her cease to exist. Humans have committed a mass genocide from abortion alone. Every 24 seconds, one child is aborted, Every 24 seconds one innocent live is lost. Since 1973, 158 million Children have been lost.

Reason 2/ Evidence
Abortion is also a very unpredictable procedure, Medically, doctors don; recommend it, it can be unsafe and it can also lead to many sicknesses

Eric Cho
Assertion: Old Disney princess and hero animations should not be shown to children under 7.

It discourages the women's rights.
In old Disney princess movies,
