I looked over this Ikea cinematic advert. which shows part of the film known as the shining which puts one of the popular scene. The tracking shot that was used for this advert grabbed my attention and I wanted to put it in my advert.

The link above shows a phone advert used as a horror/comedy theme to show off their latest gadgets. This advert is actually the main reason I chose this project as it has a chasing scene, set into the woods, and it has humor at the end of this which reminds me of the film Scary Movie. The reason I liked this advert is because it is unique, I do not usually see this type of advert, so I knew that it might benefit from being unique and it will make my project very enjoyable.

Blair with project is a film that was made back in the 90s. The reason I chose this film was because of the specific scene there is a shot shot which was shaky cam which I want to put into my film to make it feel like you in there witnessing the character being chased.

One of the films I saw back then, which I cannot remember clearly , is Scary Movie. It mixes horror and humor. In my opinion it affects the audience in a way that makes them feel funny and scared at different times as if they were in a roller coaster.

I started doing the script while thinking of my location. The brand was not kept the same as I already brought a different one, but the product stayed the same. After some searching for the fastest power banks. I decided to change from Belkin to Ducarell.

I continued with writing my script from the last 3 weeks, and finished it today. Since it is my first time developing a script I think I learned the basic skills involved in creating a good story. I learned to be more creative in writing and having to make changes. As I kept writing my script I decided to add a bit of humour, the reason why is because it doesn't make it that scary for an advert to advertise to the audience. I think involving characters will make the advert more interesting since I want it to be a bit longer

These are the lists of shots that were used through my production.

Mid shot- This shot is used in most of my clips, the reason being is because it helps to focus on the character.
Tracking shot- Tracking shot was used twice beginning and end. The reason I chose tracking shot instead of other shots is to make the audience feel like they are with the main character.
Shaky cam- Shaky cam was useful to make the advert seem much scarier, because it makes you feel like you are dizzy, you got lost and you are panicking . Similar to the reason why I chose tracking shot later.
Over The Shoulder-This is a shot technique I had in mind where the first character (shot from the back) speaks with the second character, because it is one of the most known ways to film to people talking at a scene. I would say it is not well known as over the shoulder, but rather it is more like two shot since it can clearly show two people.
Zoom In Shot- I used this technique to zoom into the battery so the audience can have in mind that this is an important detail in this advert.

Ihave though clearly of my two ideas which was interview comedy or a horror advert about a product which is an app called Yandex. Translate which scans text to translate into a different language.
During my research I had to find more about different adverts,

I decided between the two ideas and then I finally came to conclusion that the idea I choose is the horror themed advert . The reason I have to stick with this idea is because the script in the comedy sketch was too difficult for me to do since i never experienced with script writing to do with comedy, so I knew that the horror advert will be easier for me to make since it has less script writing.

I realized that to be able for the application to work perfectly you will need a fast connection, also while translating it struggled to translate most words wrong. So I decided to keep the same horror theme put into it but the product should be different advertised, as well as the script having some changes put into it. The product is called belkin pocket power it suppose to advertise a charger when being outside in difficult situations such as being lost in the woods or other dark locations. The name of the series is in the link of the power bank.

I started creating a shot list for the production I am soon able to make. I decide to also make a final decision on asking my colleges to help me throughout this project which took difficulty at first but still managed to get them to work with me. The following I needed help was with two actors and one sound man.

I started to complete my script and printed it out into papers so I would share with my team group. I also finished shot list I created, but did not manage to complete the storyboard for the lack of timing.

17/06/2019
I started to gather my crew to help me with the filming. We had some issues with my first location so we had to make amendments to another location. We had to choose the closest location which was Clapham Common Park. Aswell as having to pick my equipment which had included NX100, Tripod, Rifle mic and Boom. As making our way to the park we had to set up our equipment near a bench and bunch of trees. It turned out it wasn't the best location compared to the previous one I had in mind but still managed to do the job.

While filming I made sure I had different types of shots planned on my shot list, also recruiting everyone to do their acting as well as the sound man to help me throughout the filming. As a result the filming turned out good as I had no problems with the equipment, acting, sound and camera shots. I experienced the following problems which are having to keep up with timing, lines from the script were left out from the shooting, One crew member had to leave urgently during filming.

On the second day the process of filming was similar to the first day in terms of good filming shots, acting and sound, but timing once again was a problem and could not manage to film during night. Random people can be seen on the background during filming, which does not match what I wanted on my advert initially and we had to skip through some scenes to speed up the filming.

My initial project was an application advert (up to 10 minutes long)"yandex.translate", this app helps to translate any word by just taking a photo of a phrase and translate it instantly. Although I was sure I wanted to advertise this product, I needed to change my it, because it translated some words bad and also it is affected by the Internet signal and there is hardly any connection in the woods.
Instead I changed to a different product "Duracell USB Charger", because the battery charger does not need a wireless connection to charge phone and it is not affected by the location. I was still unclear on what I wanted to make throughout my storyline and timescale.
I was going to research weekly to and saving it on padlet. I started uploading reflections on my padlet towards the end, so next time I can start earlier because it will make me a better filmmaker.

Research

During my research I got ideas from different adverts, which helped me decide what kind of genre I wanted to explore. It was a horror theme advert that I liked for "Phones 4u" since I do not usually see horror type adverts that also includes having some humor into it.

I experimented with the "yandex.translate" app in college and a park and I realized it did not work properly. I did not get permission after finding out the app was not the best choice therefore I decided to switch to a USB charger, because it was easier to adapt to my script.

Practical skills

Skills I used for planning were time management, prioritisation and communication skills.
Skills I learned during shooting my advert are: directing, pointing the sound mic in the right place, recording properly and giving instructions.
Sklls I used during post production are: adding sound effects, editing, adding music and color grading.
The challenges I faced were the following: turning day into night, color grading and location. I could not stick with my initial idea of turning day into night because it was a long process and I run out of time.
The skills I was proud of were the following: script writing, adding music and sound effects into my edit and directing.
I was being professional however I feel like I need to improve on my time management and color editing skills.

Evaluation and reflection

During the process, my filming did not seem to be as accurate as I initially envisioned. This is mostly because the location was not scary enough, so I decided to make it look scarier, but I could not manage, because too many passers-by were in the park appearing on the background. This ruined the chasing scene. At the same time this added a bit of humor to my advert, which is also what I wanted, that is fine by me considering this is, after all, my first project.
Initially I wanted to do a long advert, after watching a few English and Korean adverts (such as the following https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YkPvm0IeqE), and I met my goal partially. Because I had to change the time length to shorten it. Next time I will allow more time to match what I want.
Also I will become a better film-maker by typing my reflections as I go along.
