Students took part in an Anti-Racism workshop with Cultúr Migrant Centre, exploring themes of respect, inclusion and equality. The workshop encouraged meaningful discussion and helped deepen students’ understanding of diversity, supporting our commitment to creating a welcoming School of Sanctuary for all.

Our students took part in the blessing of the school candle, praying for our whole school community. They explored the beautiful sights of Lourdes on the town train, deepening their knowledge of its history. A moving prayer service in the City of the Poor, led by Fr. Derek Darby, was a special moment of reflection. Along the way, students met wonderful people and created memories that will last a lifetime.

The students and teachers in Eureka Secondary School recognised the hard work and dedication of our SNAs, Carol Fitzsimons, Louise Carey and Sophie Brady, on Thursday, 24th September, National SNA Appreciation Day. A token of our gratitude was presented to each of the ladies by students, Maeve Ward, Eve Duffy and Madison Henry. We are so thankful for the excellent work they carry out every day.

This is a space that the students of Eureka can access when they are feeling overwhelmed or experiencing sensory discomfort. The 5-, 10- or 15-minute programmes will help the students to regulate while experiencing a calming or energising Cubbie experience. 

A great new addition to the school that is, as stated by the students, "Class" and "Absolutely Brilliant".

The standard of football was outstanding, and the atmosphere was electric (helped by the fact that the rain mostly stayed away 🙌). After some brilliant group matches, quarter-finals and semi-finals, the action came down to two thrilling finals:

🏆 Shield Final – Mullagh v Carnaross, with Mullagh just edging victory in a nail-biting contest.

🥇 Cup Final – St Colmcille’s Kells v Knocktemple, where St Colmcille’s Kells just came out on top after a superb display of skill and teamwork.

👏 Huge congratulations to all the players, teachers, and club mentors involved – the talent and dedication on display shows the fantastic work being done at underage level in our local clubs and schools.

Most importantly, a massive shout-out to our GAA Future Leaders TY students – your effort, organisation and teamwork shone through. You should be incredibly proud of the brilliant, welcoming event you ran today!

What is GOAL Jersey Day? Jersey Day is GOAL's flagship annual fundraising campaign held across Ireland and throughout the world. GOAL Jersey Day sees tens of thousands of people coming together to wear their favourite sports jerseys and support GOAL's work with vulnerable communities. Today, GOAL is active in 14 countries globally, helping people whose lives and livelihoods have been shattered by conflict, disease, and climate change.

Our amazing 6th Year students attended the Higher Options exhibition in the RDS, Ballsbridge today. The event, organised by The Irish Times, gave students the chance to meet representatives from Irish and international colleges, explore apprenticeships, and attend talks on CAO applications and study opportunities abroad. It was a valuable day that helped students gather information and consider the many pathways open to them after the Leaving Certificate.

Thank you to all students who donated shoe boxes to the shoebox appeal for Team Hope. Our Transition Year students delivered the boxes down to the community collection point at Hetherton’s garage today. Well done to all involved. 👏🏻

Jan from Habitat Humanity spoke to our students about the opportunity to Travel to Romania to build houses in July. This project is run with other schools all over Ireland. Any students between 16 and 18 years interested in this programme are to speak to Ms. McCormack.

On Thursday, 23 October 2025, Eureka Secondary School proudly hosted the annual College Fair in partnership with St. Ciarán’s Community School. The event welcomed over 35 exhibitors representing a diverse range of sectors, including universities, technical colleges, PLC colleges, apprenticeship providers, and local businesses.

Throughout the fair, students were given an excellent opportunity to explore a diverse mix of academic and career pathways. Exhibitors provided valuable insights into further education options, training routes, and professional opportunities, enabling students to engage directly with representatives from leading institutions across Ireland. This broad showcase helped students gain a well-rounded perspective on the many possibilities available to them after secondary school.

There was fantastic engagement from students on the day, with many taking the initiative to ask questions, gather course information, and enquire about entry requirements. The fair proved to be an important milestone for students preparing to take their next step, whether they are aiming for university, technical courses, apprenticeships, or employment.

College Fair 2025 was a tremendous success, made possible by the hard work and collaboration of both schools, along with the incredible support from all exhibitors. Their combined efforts ensured that the event was not only informative but also inspiring and impactful for all attendees.

Zak Moradi is a Kurdish-Irish hurler, author, and inspirational speaker. Born in Iraq, he came to Ireland as a child refugee and later became the first player of Kurdish origin to play senior inter-county hurling with Leitrim. Through his achievements in sport, as well as his book 'Life Begins in Leitrim' and his RTE documentary 'Home', Zac shares his powerful story of resilience, identity, and belonging, encouraging others to embrace diversity and the idea of sanctuary in their communities.

His whole-school address will be particularly important as it will give all our students the opportunity to hear first-hand about the experience of seeking sanctuary, helping to deepen understanding, inspire empathy, and reinforce the values of welcome and inclusion at the heart of our school.

Looking for something fun and different at lunchtime? Come along to the Welcome Club and make your own Motanka doll—a cool, traditional Ukrainian craft made by wrapping fabric (no sewing needed 👀).
