By: Shirley, Noah, Iris, Kate, Johnny

Black: Black is the main tone of the story. It is shown on the front page of the book. It also it 90% of the colour of the gutter in the book. Whenever the gutter is black, the scene in the story is dark. Back represents the fear, helplessness, and hunger of the children who refused to fight.

Red: Anger. War. Blood. This is what red symbolizes. Red is also a colour that dominated the book. It is shown on the cover of the book by being whole background. It is in the book whenever there is a fighting scene. The red colour shows up as the background of the scenes of the book whenever someone is hurt.

White: White represents the hope in the children's heart, their wishes of them reaching home. In the beginning, the gutter is white. In the end, the gutter is also white. Those are the places where the children are home and safe, and are hopeful.

Brown: Brown, represents a lot. It represents the children, trees, and mud. By the children's skin tone, it shows where they live, they were unable to do anything against LRA, where the government doesn't have as much power. Brown also represents the trees and mud which represents the setting of the story. For the most part, this story takes place in the forest where the children is surrounded by trees and mud.

Quiet and Peaceful: Quiet and Peaceful, that is the name of the colour. It represents the feeling of safety. It represents relief. It represents the children were away from the LRA. Quiet and Peaceful, it means that everything is good and everything is calm.

Jerry, Lilian, Caesar, Lexy
Yellow: Yellow represents the innocents of the children before they came in contact with the LRA. How the children were happier and brighter before. Yellow can also represent how delicate someone or something is, and how they can be broken like a horse by others.

Black & White: The black & white paint chips are contrasting colour that symbolizes the main themes, conflicts, and mood of the story. Whenever the gutter is black, it represents fear, despair and ultimately death. On the contrary, the colour white represents hope and the feeling of safety. Other times, black and white are utilized together to emphasize plot points in the story.

Red:

Red is a colour that could symbolize many things like love, fear, anger, blood, sacrifice, pain and danger. It’s an intense colour that creates a mood or feeling. Though red could define many negative feelings, red could mean also the exact opposite. Beauty and love could be shown through red. It all about how you interpret the colour. In the book War Brothers the colour red was used on the front cover. The title itself has two opposite feelings. War as negative. Brothers as positive. The colour red could emphasize two opposite moods though still able to represent the mood the story reflected off.
