         <description><![CDATA[<div>The video relates to the quote because students are gathered together participating in a cypher. A cypher motivates students to be engaged and participate in the classroom setting. It is a great method to teach and learn because as one student is teaching - the rest of the students are listening and learning. In the video, Mr. Mooney mentions that a cypher is a, "framework of teaching and learning" because the teacher does not have to keep telling the students to pay attention because they are already doing so. A cypher is a great way for students to learn - the quote describes that connection between the cypher and the students while the video demonstrates the students being engaged and participating in learning because of the cypher.&nbsp;<br>Video time: 02:35 - 03:55</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Ron Clark's motive and passion for teaching in the video below is a great connection to the quote. Creating songs and dance moves are great motives for the students to learn. The video shows a connection between the teacher, Ron Clark, and his students as they all are doing a challenge together. In the video, Ron Clark mentions that by getting to know each students culture and caring - it will help build a stronger relationship between the teacher and the students. Those connections will motivate students to be respectful and work harder (1:29 - 1:36). The video relates to the quote because the quote describes how students become motivated and feel comfortable in a classroom when their teacher tries to connect with them by getting to who they are as a person, what they like and don't like, and the best ways for them to learn. Ron Clark demonstrates all of those key points in the video by collaborating with his students. Ron Clark's see's that his students are engaged in learning by creating songs and dance moves, so therefore, Ron Clark creates those rituals for his students to learn.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The clip from the movie, Freedom Writers, shows a student reading a part from his diary to the class. In that moment, the teacher and his classmates gain an insight of the students life outside of the classroom. The quote relates to the video because Emdin mentions that, "privileging the voice of the student" can help teachers connect and learn about their students lives inside and outside of school (pg. 87). The clip shows the teacher learning about her students homeless situation. The quote and the video connect because in the video, the teacher and student switch roles - the student is teaching the class about his life outside of the classroom, and the teacher listens and learns about her student. The quote mentions that it is important for teachers to let their students co-teach so they can feel like their voice matters.</div>]]></description>

         <title>&quot;This story shows us how institutions foster divides among the neoindigenous, and illustrates how schools foster divides among the neoindigenous. The Latina worker who signed the pledge to speak English is in many ways like the student described above who sat quietly on his own because the teacher praised him for doing so. The employees who refused to sign the pledge are like students who either cannot or will not comply with the norms of the traditional classroom&quot; (Emdin, 2016, pg. 111). </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The quote mentions that some students do not, "comply with the norms of the traditional classroom" (Emdin, 2016, pg. 111). In the video, the students enter the classroom without following the traditional classroom rules. In a traditional classroom, students walk in quietly, sit down, and do morning work provided by their teacher. In the video, students walk in talking, move their desks and keep talking as the teacher tries to get their attention. I chose this clip because it demonstrates what the quote is describing - students who follow and students who do not follow the classroom norms.          <description><![CDATA[<div>The video connects with the quote because in the quote, Emdin mentions that call-and-response is a feature used in a black church. In the video, Emdin demonstrates how the call-and-response is used in a black church. So the quote describes the feature while the video demonstrates. Emdin's example - the preacher thinks of a way to get the the attention from the audience. The preacher uses call-and-response by asking, "can I get an amen?", and the audience responds with an, "amen". The call-and-response helps the audience become engaged.&nbsp;This correlates to a classroom setting because teachers use the call-and-response feature to get their students attention and help them become engaged. <br>Video Time: 03:38 - 04:40</div>]]></description>
