         <description><![CDATA[<div>Thomas Jefferson was born on <strong>April 13, 1743</strong> just outside of Charlottesville, VA, at the Shadwell Plantation.<br><br>Jefferson was born into one of Virginia's elite families. His father was a farmer and cartographer. He created the first accurate map of Virginia.<br><br>Jefferson's childhood hobbies included playing in the woods, playing the violin, and reading. At age nine, Jefferson began his formal education at a local private school.</div>]]></description>

Jefferson represented the Democratic-Republican party. His Vice Presidents were Aaron Burr (1801-1805) and George Clinton (1805-1809).<br><br>Before his presidency, the country was under federalist control with president John Adams.<br><br>Jefferson's presidential goals were in opposition to Alexander Hamilton and the Federalists' plans to expand the power of the central government.</div>]]></description>

For $15 million, he acquired land stretching from the Mississippi river to the Rocky Mountains, previously owned by Napoleonic France. Along with this,  Jefferson reduced taxes, government spending, and the national debt, and repealed the Alien and Sedition Acts.</div>]]></description>
