5 Tips for Incoming Students:1.	Try to get started on the SimbioLab asap. It may not be apparent in the Module, but it is very time-intensive, so the earlier you get started, the better.2.	When you are assigned to a group for a discussion, please try to do your part asap so it doesn’t throw off the students who still need to reply to your part of the assignment, and waiting around on you. It can mess them up. For example, if your first submission is due on Monday, and student replies are due on Wednesday, please, don’t wait until the last minute- it will mess up some of your student peers.3.	Read the textbook. Read the instructor’s lectures and power points. Watch the videos. They are very helpful to you in understanding the material. If you’re not sure about something, reach out to your instructor. She is reasonable.4.	Review the vocabulary. You will want it for this class, and in the future.5.	Try not to be overwhelmed or depressed about this class. It has many eye-opening, shocking, in-depth, negative facts that are happening to our planet, and so it’s easy to feel like we are all screwed, and it’s our fault that we’ve messed up this planet so badly. It can be very depressing. Try to take a proactive approach and ask yourself how you can contribute to a healthier planet. For example, food choices, consumer choices, and plant/animal/ land advocation/ political choices. Even simple things like walking instead of driving, recyclable grocery bags, reusing or doing without products, will help our planet.

The number one thing I would suggest all new incoming students do is the Guiding Questions. Although this is not required I did them every week thoroughly and I felt like it helped me so much to understand the material on a deeper level. It makes you really think about what you are learning when you are writing it down. I also did this by going through the book and Powerpoint at the same time. I hope this helps others as much as it has for me!

Tips for incoming students for taking this class. I would recommend using the guiding questions and taking notes of the power-points that are provided. Those are really good tools that will help you do well on the quiz. I would also recommend taking notes for the video quizzes so you can do good on those as well. Overall, this class was really interesting and it really makes you think about how the environment is, what we should do to improve it, and the how we should help educate other people on making the world a better place to live.

As someone who procrastinates often and lacks motivation, doing an online class is HARD. Somehow I found a way to overcome this with this class and I would like for students to try not to get overwhelmed. Although it seems like there is many assignments, they are absolutely doable and the textbook and supplementary videos will ALWAYS help. I would say planning really helped me. I personally would focus on one section of the reading and then do the assignment. Then do so again the next day for the next assignments. Pacing it out helped me to not get overwhelmed but also to digest the information more accurately. Also, pay attention to concepts and make sure you understand what the true message of it is. Everything is very interesting when you try to apply it in your own life somehow.

As a procrastinator, I'd always find my self getting anxious of assignment and test. I usually have a pattern of avoiding all my work until the end which makes my stress builds. I have started to write down all my assignment on my planner no matter big or small. As well as doing yoga or meditating before an exam to calm my nerves. I know college is hard a class being online only builds the pressure but that doesn't, mean it has to be a nerve raking experience. So plan out your days for week and also add in self care in your schedules.

Since the classes were online, I had to study actively. My motivation dropped in the middle of the quarter, so I had to close the deadline to do my homework. I recommend you check your homework description and do your homework earlier. If you do your homework earlier, you can ask your teacher and friends. Also, sometimes, you can't finish the homework for a day ( you have to go out to research). Taking breaks and doing homework early is the key to success.

1. DO Catch up with everything on time. I missed a week of work of all my classes because I had technical issues, but I emailed my professors about it so they were nice. It is extremely hard to do 2 weeks of work in one week though.
2. If you are studying from another country, DO keep in pace with all the due dates! I know I found myself turning in things a day later because I assume the timelines wrong. I know other international students have encountered this difficulty.
3. DO NOT turn things in last minute like I did. The more you do that the more work start stacking up giving you limited time to finish them!
Personal opinion: I enjoyed some bits of this class, I think I would have liked it more if I was more in pace with it.

My tips on how to be successful in an online science class

I was in Running Start for two years and majority of my classes were typically online for my convenience, so I was able to get used to them overtime, however, it was definitely challenging the first time I started out, especially for my difficult classes such as my math and science classes. Online classes are very helpful for those who have a tight schedule, but keeping track of your own work and learning can be a challenge. I was able to figure out how to motivate myself with my classes virtually by understanding how long it would take me to finish certain assignments as well as keeping track on how early I want to turn them in. For instance, if I know a particular assignment was going to take my more than an hour to do, I would usually do it two days before the due date. Planning everything ahead of time is an efficient way to not only manage your time, but to also finishing everything in advance without having the need to feel overwhelmed. It's also a must to always keep in contact with your professor especially if you are struggling with a few issues or need some help within the classroom as well as messaging a few classmates to help each other on certain assignments. For this class in particular, I've been forgetting to download my assignments on either PDF or doc., it might not be a problem for everyone else but if you're forgetful like me and use a mac to turn in assignments, make sure to always download you assignments as a separate PDF! I wasn't able to finish my SimbioLab though I have already paid for the trial at least twice and still couldn't log on, make sure you message the professor about it! If the Lab is working for you, work on it as soon as possible as I heard these can take time to finish. Take notes in the textbook as well as the videos, question practice tests, etc. the prof uploads for each module I found them very helpful when studying for weekly quizzes!

1. Plan ahead! I would recommend using a planner for this. I used one because I had another class and it made my life easier to study on.
2. Keep up with all the lectures! don't wait until the last minute to second guess yourself and learn that you got a bad score.
3. Take at least 5-8 hours per week on studying and doing the material. This will make it easy and fast and not doing it when the material is due.
4. Make sure to get a good night sleep! Its not only important for your body, but for your memory as well.
